I bought these from zoro tools on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/330938101448?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 . I need the 17mm to do my toyota yaris front disc brakes. Apparently you use the 17mm tappet to hold hex in back of 14mm nut to remove caliper. I assume proto owns facom. http://www.protoindustrial.com/en/i...E6T_Facom®-6-Piece-Metric-Tappet-Wrench-Set-/ I bought the set instead of a single 17mm. What are some uses for the other wrenches? Price of 80.85 is good. What I'm saving doing my own brakes more than pays for the set.

I purchased a set of those wrenches when I needed a really skinny wrench to hold a lock nut in place. Unfortunately the Craftsman one was still a bit too thick. Mac, Snap-On, and several japanese companies still manufacture skinny wrenches like those. Most of the time I need them for adjusting fasteners on power tools.

Just hang on to the wrenches, other uses will probably present themselves, and they're not the kind of wrench you can easily purchase from a hardware store, especially in metric.

As to ownership, Stanley is now co-owned/partnered with Black&Decker, before the merger, Stanley had purchased Facom, which at the time was France's and Europe's largest tool company/"manufacturer." Facom owned a number of other tool companies including USAG of Italy, Britool of England, Bost of France, as well as some others companies. Those companies are now owned by Stanley. The wrenches, unless they say France, were probably manufactured in Italy by USAG, which has for a long time manufactured some of the Facom tools, and vice versa.

Got em today. Made in Italy. Some cosmetic flaws on the 17x16 (17 side) wrench. Other than that nice.

Waiting for the brake pads and rotors to come in the mail. Then I can try the 17mm wrench.

Are minor defects like these common? The rest of the wrenches are perfect. My friend thinks these wrenches are stamped instead of forged.

Those wrenches would have been made in one of the Italian USAG factories. I believe Facom may have cold forged some or all of their wrenches, and since they own USAG it's possible USAG uses cold forging as well. I believe Monte posted a video showing wrench production by Beta Tools that showed them cold forging their wrenches as well. I have a set of regular Double Open End wrenches made by Facom. Some of the wrenches have a slightly different finish than the others and one or two probably have similar cosmetic issues. Cosmetic issues on one or two wrenches in a set seems to be on par with most wrench or socket sets I have. As long as the tool works I just just ignore it.

Would NOS France made wrenches or Italy ones be preferred or are they really about the same in terms of quality.

Like Toolaholic, I purchased my set of Facom metric tappet wrenches from Zoro Tools. He purchased the set from its eBay store. I purchased the set from zorotools.com. However, my set was manufactured in France (pictures here). I did not notice any slight appearance flaws on any of the wrenches when I received the set last month.

Please take a picture on a regular high quality combo wrench and this facom so we really see how much thinner they are!
