If you have some machining ability, take a piece of flat stock, cut it about 3" long and mill two 3/8" openings in either end. I used a replacable 3/8" drive stud out of a SO 1/2" to 3/8" adaptor in one end. I use this with crowfeets all the time getting at hard to reach fittings. Also works to turn a crowfoot into a super short wrench.

I like the etched socket idea as a thumbwheel. Guess I should upgrade my shorty two-head like that?

There's an idea. I don't have a two head ratchets, but I'll be lifting your etched socket idea. I have plenty of junk tools for modifying. Having a few etched sockets for stuff like getting fan shroud screws started is an excellent idea.

not really a tool per say..I took an old antenna mast and I came down about 3/4 of an inch from the tip and bent it 90*. I used that for all kinds of things from unlocking doors to positioning serp belts.
