Reel Light Cords?

I have a Snap-On drop light, the cord is becoming a little old, it is housed in a 30 foot retractable reel. I never cared for the cord that came with it since it has grooves, prefer the smooth cord that is easy to wipe off. Another light I own is made by National Electric mfg, 50 ft reel and smooth cord, this is my favorite reel and cord. SJTOW cord - oil and water resistant

Funny how I like the fluorescent light housing on the snap-on, the link to Central tools looks like my light except mine says Snap-on, maybe rebranded. http://www.centraltools.com/lights_15w.html

I am considering rewiring the older one, thinking about upgrading the cord to the SJTOW type. Why did the factory use this type of cord, any problems using another cord? Good source for the replacement cord?

Thanks

If you like your old one that well, then by all means rewire it. We had a vacuum that had one of those grooved cords too... didn't like it either. But in my case I got rid of the vacuum (Dirt Devil POS).

You should be able to find a decent selection of cord at HD. Just look at the printing on the cord and make sure that you match specs and you should be fine. Then again, I am not an electrician...

I had a retractable light that the grooved wire went bad on. I think that it was junk wire to begin with. The insulation peeled off of the wire when I pulled it out one time when it was very cold in the garage. I threw the light away but was thinking that if I were to replace the wire I would have used the wire from one of those blue cold weather extention cords as a replacement.

Since I am getting better at posting pictures, wanted to share a couple of pictures of my favorite reel light and new shorter version.
