I have wanted a mag drill for some time. I rented one last year for a small job, but I could not see myself owning one like the Milky that I rented. That thing weighed 75 lbs! The holes I need to drill were on vertical members while standing on an 8' ladder. That thing was a major PITA to get in the right position; wore me out after the 4 holes I was drilling.
Anyway, I knew then that I would only settle for a low profile version to fit into tighter spots and stuff. The lowest profile was a 6" German brand so I bought one on Ebay. After my initial check out of the drill I decided that I need a few features that would fit my future needs.
As usual, my designs begin with stuff I already have on-hand. Some #60 SS chain, sprocket, ball lock pins, and some scrap 3/8" plate.
No large pipe around so I mounted the base plate on a piece of 8" pvc to show how it works.
Next, I hope to make a vacuum plate base...
