Saved this last week. Been looking for one for a long time, something older that was bulletproof, worked great and had vintage style to it. Most of what I found locally was either newer Chi-Com junk that would last 5-10 years before replacement, or was older but costs $200-300. I found this north of me in central PA, I was going through there at the time and snagged in on my way north.

It's a Craftsman 103.23130, tabletop drill press, powered by an old motor, I assume it's original, seems to work good but the belt will need replacement as it's a little frayed. The previous owner said it was his dad's, and guessed the age around late-1940s or so, maybe you guys know for sure. The owner had modified it to hold a light bulb inside the main turret housing, you can see the outlet and the remains of a *********** cord inserted into the top. Kind of ingenious to add light to it, I might do a similar modification to light up the work being drilled.

Total price out the door was $65 cash.

It's going into the shed for storage now, but when the top side of this spinning ball we're on starts warming up in a few months, it will be getting new paint and some de-rusting of the work surfaces.

Was it worth what I paid for it?

love it! Great price on it!

Though, I have a question. Did these come out of the box with Dunlap motors or no? Seems odd that they would offer the higher end Craftsman Drill with the lower end Dunlap motor.

Nice score DTM! Well worth $64.

Rick, they were sold without the motor and the buyer could then use a motor he already had or buy the one of his choice. They had a combo with motor as well.

Great price, no deep rust, no arc of shame, clean logo and headband, nothing seized (just guessing), and you got it on a roadtrip ....................... yup, YOU **** !

I'd be willing to bet that it will run as is. But you'll want to replace the wires first.

I'm not sure, but I think the lighting package was an option that could be added to this model. Just like the option to choose your own motor. It may not have been homemade. :dunno:

Customer had the option, with or without motor. My last 2 both had Dunlap motors. I've never considered Dunlap as being lower end. Tom Dunlap was hired by Sears to run its tool dept before leaving and starting Dunlap Co.

$65.00 is a good price, you do ****! That drill looks like the "100" series, late 50's to about '62

Thanks for all the "thumbs-up" for my purchase. I'm looking forward to fixing it up a little, making it look purdy, but too many projects in the queue right now ahead of it.

And to answer the question, does it work? Yes, it's been tested out and everything seems to work okay. Motor passes the smoke test, all the knobs and adjustments seem to move okay. So, only things I see right now it needs, are a cleanup, repaint (gray of course), new belt, and maybe some lube where it needs it.

FrankLee - thanks for the links to the manuals for it! I'll pass on the parts to convert to floor model, I have access to a floor model at work, just need this table-top to make my life complete now! :)

Craftsman at that time did not have a 1/3 hp motor labeled craftsman only Dunlap so the smaller presses got Dunlap branded motors if 1/3hp was selected.
