I have been thinking of purchasing a new air compressor for my home shop. After researching online and looking in person, I have just totally confused myself about what to buy. I am currently considering a Quincy Model 230. This is an older used unit, single phase 220 compressor with a baldor motor. I know this is probably more compressor than I currently need, but I figure I can always grow into it. Does anyone have a compressor like this or any thoughts on this subject?

I feel sorry for you, as info is a pain to find on that unit. I use to have a model 230. It is pretty much a 240 with a little less output. Contact Quincy, they will send you a manual, or at least they did for me.

What is the ROC on it? It is a single stage (really 100psi max) ~16 CFM @ 90psi at a moderate rate of speed. ~3-5hp electric motor.

I am going to try to make time to go look at the compressor this weekend. I will get more details about the unit.

I've got a QT, don't know about the model 230? Mine is 5hp, single phase 220v, splash lubricated, baldor motor, 175psi and I think 15.5 cfm. I had to really think on it as I had what was supposedly a 5hp sears oilless. . .when it finally died I bit the bullet and all I can say is I wish I had done it 5 years ago. . . .this thing is incredible!!

And that is just a splash lube quincy. If you get a pressure lube unit you have either standard or optional, a spin on oil filter, hydraulic unloader, obviously an oil pump, stop start OR continuous run option.
