Good Day people! Thought I would get started by adding some pics of my garage build. It is a 50' long x 32' wide x 12' tall metal building. I did a 5" slab with the pex heating coils. There 13 loops in the floor. The building is a conventional stick built with 6" sidewalls. On the gable end I have a 10'wide x 11' tall insulated overhead door, a 10' w x 9' tall insulated oh door , a 2' x 4' window and the insulated steel service door.
This was supposed to be finished before this winter, but the contractor bit off a bit more than he could chew and it is running quite late. Old man winter has NOT done us any favors either.... but construction is in progress!

Beginning with site prep...

The framing of the walls begins. Front wall has (left to right) a 11' tall x 9' 10' wide OH door, then (center) a 9' tall x 10' wide OH door, then a 2'x4' window then the service door.

We have 3 walls standing now. You can start to see the shape. Note there is a 8'x8' OH door on the left sid way at the far end. This will be for lawn equipment as well as a way to pull 2 mustangs in sideways for winter storage.

Notice also the 3"x3" square steel stock sticking up in the center of the back wall. We dug a hole about 3' down and filled it with cement around the post. This is my "Anchor Point" for example to attach a winch for pulling a dead vehicle inside the building.

Note the gap in time... the builder was supposed to have the building completed by now, they didn't show for a couple of weeks, no calls, nothing... contract expired and I almost fired them to hire a different builder to finish it up but then it get's rather ugly, lawyers and stuff, trying to figure out who get's what... decided to keep this builder but let him know I wasn't happy with the slow work. OK enough ranting...
Here's where things went sort of sour.... we got rain...lot's and lot's of rain, then, it turned to -20 degrees leaving the entire structure covered in a huge layer of ice which delayed things considerably.... the ice has to come off before the steel can go up. It is all framed out now, December 8th 2013.

After the torrential rain, it got so cold and a couple feet of snow followed, look at the tree branches, there was multiple power outages around the area... construction has ground to a halt...

Interesting snow formation on my '85 Ford F150 in the back yard after the big storm.... the battery was dead I had to pull it and bring it inside so it doesn't freeze and break.

Just before the storm, the arrival of my latest purchase, a used outdoor wood boiler. I found a used one for $1500.00, it goes for 6500 new. I will deal with it in the spring.... It is a "Heatsource 1" model 555 rated to heat 2500 sq feet. My trailer is about 1100 sq feet and the garage is 1600 sq feet, just enough to heat both!

Had I known that propane would go to $5.00 + a gallon this year I would have maybe tried to get his thing hooked up sooner! I just priced the insulated pex underground tubing, best price I found was $9.00 a foot. I need 75' to hook up the trailer and about twice that to hook up the garage....

Not sure of your plan but make sure the wood is dry and not water soaked and frozen before you insulate and cover it with steel. You probably already know that, just didn't want you to have a problem.

Looks like it's going to be a nice building.

I had a contractor build it and select all the components for me. He gave me a great price but he was delayed in getting started due to getting injured during the project, he also coaches a high school wrestling team and he blew out a knee while showing the kids some moves...
