My garage is detached and I don't like to use the man-door as it's not in the front of the garage. I also don't much like the standard issue Liftmaster key pad, it's nearly impossible to use with gloves. I was very pleased to find available a key fob. It's the same size as the standard Volkswagen key fob, took all of two minutes to program to my two doors, and cost less than $25. Range seems the same as the regular in-car type remote.

Yep, at my old house the garage was detached with two CM openers.

As you walked in the back door of the house you'd pass the breaker box hidden behind an oak door and frame. I took a spare CM remote and afixed it to the inside of the oak door. It too about 1/2 a second to open/close the garage door as you passed that oak door.

Yep, usually most brands will have different sized remotes. I like the little ones too for when I want to go on a bike ride but don't want to have to take keys to get back in the garage.
