Alright, so I read what everyone had to say and am now condensing to get more in the allotted 10 poll options. Give me a second to get the poll up, you can choose as many as you want.

I don't see the matco rebade witte. Allthou my hard handles are my go to drivers, I find the witte to be a great driver. If my hardhandles start to stripe a Phillips, the witte often has the bit to get it loose.

Mac's macsimizers soft grip get my vote, most commonly owned and used in the gm dealer I work at. I have picks with these handles and there super comfortable and very easy to put a ton of torque down, sometimes almost to much.

I have to agree with the comment in the previous thread, about snappys Philips tips declining, the three guys who are such snappy heads they would take a free Mac or matco screwdriver, but they have all traded in there Philips instincts Philips have since traded them for wera kraftforms.

Snappy is great but in this case I'm going Mac

I voted other. I have a Matco set, aka Witte. I really like them and have had zero problems so far. A little difficult to clean because of the grips on them.

I had a small precision Wiha set which my grandfather bought for me a while ago and I love it! So I am looking into some larger Wiha screwdrivers

Epsteins has an 18 piece set for $ 65.00...helluva deal...needs more Phillips though...

Amazon has a 19 piece set for $ 96.95...:thumbup::thumbup:

The 19 piece set is pictured...

I started with the Amazon set, and then added the Phillips, and Torx sets from Zoro tools...:lol:

Got all 36 pieces in the Big set for $125.00 less....:drool:

www.store.harryepstein.com/cp/Proto/PROTO-LG-SET.html

Epsreins 18 piece set doesn't have the whackingly huge slothead/prybar in it, he offers it at $ 20.00, and then you have to pay postege...

Amazon worked out better for me...(The "retail" price for the 19 piece set is $ 367.62!!!)

Uh, now I need to free up even more cash!

Buy some multimeters quickly :lol_hitti

I already have instincts and cman pros at home so they're going to have to wait for a while.

Another vote for other. Matco/Witte. The tips really hold up well and grip better than the Snap-ons or Macs that I own.

It's funny - I prefer the Matco Witte because of their handles over my Instincts, however I consider my Matco Phillips head to be junk. They strip out Phillips in a heartbeat, but my Snappy's never seem to do this.

I pretty much always grab the hard handles first. I really only grab the matco if the hard handle that size is out laying about some where eles. I'd say my opinion is not scientific. I bet if I truly pit the two against each other, I bet I'd find examples where one worked better then the other and vice versa on another screw.

Williams hard handle, ratcheting & T handle ratcheting.
HF soft handles (the good ones, no need for a link at this point)
Wiha precision & soft handles
Wera bitdriver
1 or 2 misc Kobalt specialty/modified
Milwaukee 11 in 1 (Klien style) I'm really starting to like this driver.
And GW ratcheting drivers now, they're new I forgot them. Nice so far but haven't used them much yet.

Also been using the ifixit precision bitdriver recently, very nice set that.

As of now I have not had the need to get premium screwdrivers, but from what I have used I like the Craftsman comfort handles that are similar to the klien screwdrivers. Kleins are also nice. It is likely that at some point I may discover something that suits my needs better.

I think the Wiha soft-grips, or their industrial duty are by far the best because of two considerations, comfort/fit and PRICE.

The Craftsman is a Pratt Read. I just picked up nearly the exact tool from Menards today branded Masterforce.

Also still like Xcelite and Vaco.

I personally like Fuller. Maybe that's just some Canadian pride on my part. Can't say I've used many tool truck brands but dad did have a nice snap on years ago.

I like the German and swiss screwdrivers and I even own a few, but I did not choose them in your poll ; Lets just say if they would break then getting them replaced is another story.

Instead I look for screwdrivers that have a good fit (in your hands and into the screw head) and getting a replacement if it breaks will be easier in the long run.

With that being said... "WHAT IS THE BEST SCREWDRIVER" type posts go with what feels good in your hands how easy will getting a replacement be and will it not cam out to fast in the screw head.

Two things I really like about Fuller, at least for their Made in Canada Golden Grip series, as thats all I've used from them so far. Their Robertson tips are swaged in the shaft, like a true Robertson should be, and the ends of their handles are more rounded than most, so they are super comfy in the palm.

I have Craftsman blue/black & red/white for general purpose, but Willi Hahn (Wiha) is who I trust for tiny precision work - I have slotted/Phillips & Torx sets.

Got sick & tired of garbage "precision" screwdrivers, and just sprung for the Wihas.

I have a number of manufacturers including: Snappy instinct, snappy hard handle and the old snappy hard handle. However it is difficult to comment on blade quality declining on the snappy screwdrivers because I am pretty sure that every one of the hard handle screwdrivers has had at least one blade change. In fact one of my hard handle screwdrivers is now and Instinct: after many blade changes the red hard handle was so loose the blade slid in and out by 0.25in. The snappy guy changed the handle LOL.

No I don't use my screwdrivers as chisels or prybars but they get a lot of use and the phillips see a lot of rusty/worn fasteners on items where you can't use an impact driver

Here's a followup question for the thread: Which of the preferred brands are hard handle and which are the softer handle? I like the softer handle better. I have some HF soft handle and now some Craftsman Pro soft handle. For soft handle options, which would be considered upgrades from these? Also, are those Protos hard or soft handles? Those look interesting to me as good values. thx- Paul

I voted snap on hard handles as they are my favorite. I wanted to vote for mac hard handles also, but I am unaware of the current quality on them, the few I have are older and have held up well.
