Just picked up a 60" wide industrial cabinet

Picked this up today, a 10 drawer 60" X 28" X 44" high, without the HD casters, Equipto cabinet. It had been on CL since before Xmas, he was asking $700., I offered $400. and he accepted.
They loaded it in my pickup, with the help of a real nice truck driver who was there picking up something with a box truck with a power gate. He offered his gate to get the box from the loading dock to my truck. I unloaded it with my forklift on my end.
I'm moving a deep drawer to the top, so as to fit Hansen trays and the like. Started moving some tools over, amazing how much stuff these deeper drawers front to back can hold, Unsure how I'm going to like all full width drawers, but I think it will be OK once I get use to it. I'm going to remove the casters and set it in place against the wall. The butcher block top is pretty badly cupped. Anybody have any experience or advice as far as straightening it? Thinking I'm probably going to have to replace it with something different, but open to other ideas.
Jim

 Dang, that is an ideal tool box in my mind. Lots of thin drawers and a true roller bearing slide design. What do the drawers measure internally? Are they smooth or perforated?

You can go at the top with a hand plane or even a power planer and a set of straightening sticks. Or if you know someone that owns a large joiner, that would be much faster. You could try straightening it with water and weight, but kinda doubtful on how that would come out on something of that size. Congrats and enjoy it.

Thanks, The drawers measure 25" front to back on the inside, if you want length and depth, can get that tomorrow. Real nice to be able to lay tools front to back, that previously required to be stored side to side in my 18" (16" inside) deep Waterloo.
It is setup inside for dividers, front to back, and side to side, The seller had pics of the drawers open, and I thought it had a bunch of side to side dividers in it, but they were actually pieces of aluminum channel and U shaped extrusions. I picked up a Rousseau tall 30" wide cabinet a couple years ago, that was loaded with dividers, so was pleasantly surprised that the front to rear dividers fit this new box perfectly. The drawers weigh a ton.

Nice box and nicer fork lift. can you take the top off very easily? since it is cupped it probably had something sitting on it pretty heavy. are the drawers damaged or are they still straight?

now if you can get the top off and the cabinets are still straight before you hit it with the planes and sanders maybe get it a little wet and turn it upside down on a flat surface like a welding table and put a lot of weight on it. that might bend it back to straight or get it closer so sanding will finish the job.

another option is to get a piece of new 3/4 or maybe 1.25 inch plywood and maybe find a piece of stainless to put on top of that.

good luck and nice buy

No drawer damage, all work fine. I suspect the top cupped due to moisture, the cabinet itself doesn't show any damage other than a couple small dings, probably from rolling it around.

The drawers measure 55" X 25" on the inside, 6 are 2 1/4" deep, 2 are 3 1/2" deep, and the other 2 are 5" deep. All measurements taken on the inside of the actual usable space. Outside was poorly repainted at some point, think I am going to try to get it back close to the original color.

That's an even better deal than my 60" wide Lista, which although taller has fewer drawers. I think I paid $700 for it and considered that a deal. $400 is a screaming deal for that box.

Make sure to document the restoration if you do one.

You're gonna love it. Last year I grabbed a 48" wide Vidmar that is about 60" tall and wasn't sure how I'd like compared to my old roll-around. It just swallows up EVERYTHING and tempts me to keep buying tools. :) Walking back and forth is a bit of a hassle if I'm not working right by it, but certainly not a deal-breaker. A buddy bought the 60" wide version only because I didn't have enough room for that one or both! Not bad for $175 each...:rocker: (and a smaller Lyon cabinet for another $100)

Almost done repainting, couple teaser shots. Anybody have a source for drawer liner that I can cut pieces that measures 25" X 55"? Found some on Ebay, but says it is second quality, not sure about that.
Thanks Jim

For the amount you'd need, I believe harbir freight is in order. I believe it measures 78"x22", or really close. But maybe the 3" difference would be a problem for you. Idk.

O, good color choice. The drawer liner I buy comes in 36" x 60'? rolls. I buy it from a local place that sells to grocery stores and they use it to line produce racks. I've been very happy with it for the price. Just a thought.

60 foot!?!?

Yes, IIRC it is either 60' or 48'. They come in a few sizes one was like 24"x60' and then 36"x48'? It is by far the most economical stuff I have found. It goes pretty quick if you are doing multiple drawers.

I think this is the brand. I'd have to dig out the receipt to be sure though. It comes in basic colors, red, green, blue, black, white. A local place sells it quite a bit cheaper.

Finished putting the box back together today. Wasn't feeling the gold anodized handles, so painted them black, got the idea from a box in the "Let's see your tool box" thread.
Started moving some tools over, man this thing just eats tools. Have to figure out what else I can put in the top drawer, still plenty of room.
