Hello all, I've been a casual member and used this site to look up some things and learned a great deal. However, I'm stumped! I picked up a Sawyer Tool Co. Vise #603 1/2 and I cannot find much information about it. It is a combination "NuTyp" unit. The base swivels and locks in any desired position. The jaws rotate around the screw axis for use as a jaw vise or may be used as a pipe holding fixture. I am in the process of restoring this heavy thing. There is very little on line that I have seen. Anything anyone can tell me about it? The movable jaw has a raised logo letter "N" surrounded by a raised letter "O". That's all I can find out at this point.

Thanks Gentlemen,

See attached photos of my completed Sawyer 603-1/2 restoration.
Starting to find out more details as I investigate. I'll post the information as I come across it.

I was employed in a machine shop about 20 years ago. An old machinist asked if I wanted to fix it up for my own use at home. The slide was broken off and one of the jaw teeth were missing. I was able to retrieve the broken slide from the scrap bin and recreated a new one out of heavy steel tubing to match the original. New jaw faces were also recreated from the original. All original hardware was still on it and carefully removed so as not to strip or break anything. Everything was all stripped of paint and years of rust. Primed all parts and matched the original "Burgundy" enamel paint color. The old machinist verified the "1924" date because he remembered the vise when it came new to the shop.
Great piece of American built quality to use and display!

Old Dad that is an outstanding looking vise.nice restore of that old US version of a popular style that so many use an import version of. Don't use it as a press or anvil and you might not need another vise ever. unless you stay on garage journal as a member and let the bug bite you to search for a 200 pound vise for the other end of your bench. I have several vises and that one would be a keeper.

I noticed your collection picture too. That's a lot of iron there! Where did you find your Nutyp Vise? Looks like she's all there too. A little TLC and she'll look like new again.

Sawyer Tool Co. 604-1/2 Nutyp Vise

Since this seems to be the place for this:

Got my first fully rotating vise. :rocker: A NuTyp of the Oswego/Sawyer/Fulton/Atlas lineage - I.N.T Corporation. Hours of online searching yielded nothing of note for I.N.T. Corp.

Model 604 1/2, bathroom scale 85 lbs.. Finish looks to be the original burgundy paint. Original wrench; which is marked 4 1/2 - 5 (more evidence of a 5 inch version).

Cursory cleaning showed lots of sawdust. Good sign. :bounce:

Am going to do a thorough cleaning, maybe shine up the metal and put it on my primary bench.

Am still looking for a Parker 429/439/449

I recently acquired one of these, it is missing one of the pipe vise jaws and the jaw with the single screw hole(not sure what call this) on the pipe vise side.
Any ideas where I might find these?

Is it an actual Sawyer vise or just the style of a Sawyer vise?

Anyone have any of the pipe jaws and perhaps a nut for the end of the shaft( that takes a cotter key) ?? In particular one of the 3 vertical pipe jaws and one of the horizontal jaws.
