Hey guys! I've finally broke ground on my new garage!!! National Barn Co. (NBC) Eastern Division is building my 30x50x13 pole barn in Murfreesboro, TN. So far, everything with them has been great.

They came out today to start the building, even in this terrible weather. I started running into some issues pretty early. I talked to the county building inspector to try to get her out to inspect the holes before they installed the poles. She questioned whether they would be pouring concrete in this rain. I asked the crew leader and he said they weren't pouring concrete at all. I told her this and she said there's no way should would sign off on it without concrete setting the posts. I guess NBC has talked to her and they are going to quickrete the holes or something?? I'm not even sure now.

That is awesome! I just signed the paperwork last week for my 40x56x14 National Barn in Colorado Springs. The dirtwork/site prep started yesterday and the "engineer stamped" plans should be done by the end of this week. I'm hoping all goes smoothly. So far, so good. I can't wait to see them putting the trusses up. Congrats!

Awesome. Good work. Kind of surprised they had no plans to use concrete.

Concrete promotes rot around the poles, everybody around here has just tamped the dirt back in for years.

They told me about a week for mine, looks like that's about the schedule you are on. Keep the pics coming. What are the plans for the building ? Am I not seeing any "man" doors or windows ?

Will do!

I will have a single man door on the front side, just about center. Then two 3x3 windows to the left of that, and a 3x3 on each gable end.

Plans are to just keep it a functional place for my car hobby. I love building hot rods and I do some road racing when I can afford it. I needed the height for a two post lift, which i've been in need of for several years now. I'll add a bridgeport and lathe along the way, when a good deal pops up.

Also, on the right side gable end i'll be adding a lean-to for trailer storage. It's been good to me, so I might as well give it a home too.

I think that pertains to poles that are set into concrete, not concrete poured would already set poles.

Either way, the poles won't rot out before my corpse does.

Day 6!

Pole Barn is up!!! They finished up just before noon. Counting day 1 as a half day (at best) and today, they really built this in 5 working days. Absolutely amazing! They did a great job from start to finish. Worked fast, hard and clean. No problems at all.

Plumber said he would be out Thursday or Friday to start trenching. Electrician said next wednesday to start on his end of the deal. Once they are done, the concrete guy comes back. I can not wait!!!

In my necck of the woods, the Engineered drawings are extra, quite a bit extra.

NBC called today to schedule the door install. I am going to wait until the concrete is in before they install the door.

Hopefully i'll have some plumber action going on out here tomorrow.

Still no luck on a used 2-post lift. :(

Yeah, the drawings were $1700 (ouch). I just got word they're done and I go for permits on Friday.

Just curious how far apart the trusses are?

Also can you divulge what the concrete estimate is?

Thanks in advance.

Trusses are on 4' centers. I requested that since I plan to put in a ceiling.

Concrete is running me $6000. That includes leveling the work site, 4" 4000psi reinforced with vapor barrier, poured thicker in the area of the lift, and a 20' wide 16' long pad from the current driveway to the new shop. Cantrell's Concrete out of Smyrna TN is doing the job. They weren't the cheapest quote I got, but they struck me as the most honest, knowledgeable, and trustworthy.

Yeah, Code Dept required them to be Engineer Stamped. AND they did not pass the drawings because of some verbage the guy put on them. The Inspector did not like it and made me send them back to the Engineer for clarification, SO I go back next week and try again. That and what a maze of **** you gotta go through to get them approved.

THIS IS FUN ! No wonder why people skip getting a permit. I'm going to do it right, but sheeesh ! My builder estimated about $600 for the permit, too.

Sorry about the rant. My plan is for 5" 4000 psi concrete, so I have options on where the lift goes. My concrete is quoted at $7500. This all sure adds up quick !

Not yet... Plumber supposed to be out there now. I haven't heard from them though. Electrician said he'd be out tomorrow.

Once that's done then the Crete comes! I can't wait!!!

Still holding..

WTF! Why is it so damn hard to get people to come out to bid and or work on this?!! I have had the hardest freakin time getting electricians to even come bid the job. I picked one and he was all about it.... Until I call and tell him the garage is up, so he's up. Then it's all crickets and excuses. WTF?!!!

I don't think i'd put that GT-R on a 2 post used lift... I might spring for the new 4 post lift myself...

I have this problem all the time. It seems no one wants to actually work for money anymore!

The place looks great

Gtr fits fine on a two post but you have to have a low pad. Some won't get under it. Stock height too.
