wrenchr - That 3pc Mac boxed set is awesome! Love all the rest too, those caught me eye though.

Give us some specifics on those..PN, tooth count, etc.

Heres the ratchets I have in my garage box. I have about 10 more in vehicles and the house box and my desk.

From front to back
Proto 1/4" spinflex
Craftsman 1/4" it took forever to find one but this is perfect and work beautifully
Easco 1/4" fine tooth
Challenger 1/4" fine tooth these can be had for cheap on Ebay and the kick ***
Snap On FH747 3/8" only SO ratchet I own and one of the few I ever plan on owning
Mac X9R 3/8" 45° floppy head, got this for $10 and its probably one of the handiest/favorite ratchets I own,
Napa NB41 this is my go to 3/8" ratchet
Easco 24 tooth ratchet, not bad but certain people on this board flip out if you have old junk like this.
Wright 3/8" 9" floppy head, nice ratchet other than the head being loose but for $4 you can complain
Old 3/8" Taiwanese ratchet I got with my first tool set when I was ten. Its there if I need it
Old Husky pro 1/2" ratchet, another one of my favorite ratchets as it has everything: QR, Fine tooth mechanism and a thumb wheel as well as a great feeling action
Wright long handle 1/2" drive, real heavy duty mechanism which makes it slighly klunky unless you keep it lubed up like a certain bolt lover on this forum does to his.

Here's my home collection. A year ago, I had a raised panel Craftsman 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2" ratchet. After this board, I have these:

Some are for sale, check the classifieds, I'm posting in a few.

The 1/2 and 3/8 are 30 tooth models, I think the 1/4 is less then that.

Yeah I got 2 pugs

Pugsly 6yrs old
Mugsly 1yr old

Here is an older pic of them together

I think you either love them or hate them, but there is no question that their personality is one of the best of any breed. I grew up with 3 yorkies, but were looking to get a dog soon. I still live home, my dad doesnt like pugs, so we'll have to settle on something else.

Whats the red rubber handle on what looks like a Proto next to the orange handled ratchet? I don't think I have seen a handle like that; did you put it on yourself? Thats the main issue I have with old school Proto ratchets; I wish the handle was more comfortable and ergonomic!

Yup thats one of the proto warranty exchange ratchets, The handle was kinda to slim for me so it got a few dunks in plasti-dip along with a SK and a couple of C-mans.

The subject of "compact" ratchets (3/8" drive in 1/4" body) came up earlier tonight. Here are a few shorts of Elroy's #5248S Proto. This ratchet is right at 23 years old.

elroy i think we all would like to admire more of your stuff!

Elroy would be pleased to accommodate but he must make something clear first. The post that follows is for information purposes and is intended as a service to the board. Others maybe interested in dimensional comparisons between brands. Elroy can't begin to offer up near the amount some others have. Elroy selection is limited but does cover the bases for what he does

First off:

The "compact" Proto in in the middle. The first three are all 3/8" drive. The top two are 1/4"

here's a herbrand j-5 that i rescued from a puddle of water in the back of a buddies shop. it was pretty rusty, i had to soak it for a couple of day's just to get it apart to clean and lube. sadly it was rusty enough i had no choice but to bead blast it. it ain't purty but it does work as good as new!

Elroy has never had the pleasure of even seeing a Herbrand ratchet up close and personal like.

Polish and shine is just a little elbow grease away. Function on the other hand is the most important. Krusty has what's important.
