Best Flooring Over Surface Cracked Concrete

I have a concrete floor in my garage that I want to cover with something. Ultimate desire is to have primarily an automotive style garage with a lift in the center bay (three car garage). I have small surface cracks in the concrete with no vertical displacements on the cracks. I have been considering epoxy but am worried that the cracks will telegraph thru the paint. I want a good floor that I can spill on and easily clean. Not trying to save money here....just want the best floor possible. I am considering tile (porcelain or even granite) as well.

Thoughts?

Any reason you can't just fill in the cracks? How many/how big? You can grind them down and fill them in if you want epoxy.

They are relatively small. Nothing to worry about from a structural perspective. I was worried that continued cracking in the future might make an epoxy floor come up. I live in South Texas and everything moves over time....

It's hard to be precise without pictures. But, I would wonder why you have alot of surface cracks. If there is movement happening then it could cause issues with the adhesive for the granite/tile and possibly even telegraph through those materials if the adhesive doesn't fail. Again, these are just possibilities and I'm shootin' blind with no pics....

We are in the midst of coating a production area for a major pharmaceutical company. They have MEGA surface cracks due to thermal shock. So, we have plenty of experience overcoming this issue.

Basically, you can overcome spider-cracked surfaces by adding one additional step to the process...
So here is some basic information. Please talk to Fred at AlphaGarage for detailed information about YOUR project! He'll be asking more questions.

Properly Prepare the concrete
Treat larger cracks if needed with IntegraFlex 1921 Self-Leveling Joint Filler
Prime with BondTite 1101
* Coat the entire floor with IntegraFlex 1980 Flexible Membrane
Coat with 12-20 mils of LiquaTile 1184
Flake it with DecoFlakes 130
Clearcoat with EnduraShield 2254

So, even if you have a severe spidercracked floor you are only adding the work of one extra coat!

Should not be a real issue to do a nice epoxy (high build) system on. Prep is key and using a quality product that will give you some build would be best. I run into that sometimes even on new floors but if it is done right there should not be any problems.

Pictures would help make a good call on your floor!!!

If the cracks are properly addressed, they should never be a problem again. If its spider cracking, then I would suggest a flex resin as a base coat, chip into it and top coat it with your fav formula. I prefer polyaspartic.

You may want to have it done professionally and avoid the headaches of installation and worries of future failure. Get a guarranty. If Floorguy is local you should check him out.

Now-a-day's you should be able to do what you want regardless if the floor is cracked. There is always something to fix your problem.
