so between these two compressors is it better to have a larger tank or 100% duty cycle?

30 gal tank....50% duty cycle.

just in case you ask what i'm using it for...
typical impact wrench, tire inflation, tire changing, some occasional painting body panels, air hammer.

let me know what you think.
thanks!

The 20 gallon is 5.5 SCFM while the 30 gallon is 6.5 SCFM.

For about the same money, consider this one.

At 13.4 SCFM you can do anything with it. How often do you work on stuff? I'm doing stuff at night and weekends, seriously running the compressor so I think it comes down to how often you work on stuff. For me the 60 gallon was well worth it. I would run a 20 gallon down and have to wait on it. If you are going to work on stuff once a month, I'd go with the cheapest one.

since you have the 60 gal one...how heavy is it? the truck delivery would add to the price.

i've used the 30 gal at a friend's house and it seems to be ok.

i'm probably out there 1-2 times a week (sometimes every other week). definitely not working with it every night and weekends.

the current cheap compressor is so loud that it's getting real annoying to use it. with the 30 gal at 6.5 scfm i might go with that.

The 60 gallons isn't that heavy, two guys can move it, but you have to keep it vertical to haul it as they don't want oil I the compressor going where it shouldn't be. Some may not put the oil in the compressor so you can lay it down. You just need to read on the box to know for sure.

The oil-less ones are very loud. The motor is direct drive to a diaphragm type pump. Those with a v-belt tend to be quieter.
