Based on this original GJ thread, I decided to order some tool box liner from Eric at Nu Source after receiving my sample:

http://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=246172&highlight=liner

I have my old SO KR box from the 80's that needed the old original foam liner replaced. I wanted to get as close to modern SO KRL liner as I could find.

I ordered the new liner from Eric at Nu Source. The cost to reline top and bottom was around $50 + shipping. It was actually cheaper to have them custom cut the liner then buy it bulk or on a roll.

I compared this liner to the liner in a newer SO KRL box since that's the "gold standard" by which other liners should be judged.

Here's my observations:
- The Nu Source and KRL liner are the same thickness at .050". (thin is good when it comes to drawer liner - sometime it'll make the difference of a drawer closing or not when fully packed)
- Both liners have that slight tacky feel
- The Nu Source liner layed flat/stayed put in the drawer and tools didn't slide. (very good grab) I performed several jerky openings/closings of the drawers just to make sure nothing moved around/slid.
-Both liners seem to be very similar if not identical in material composition. The biggest difference I observed was the surface texture patterns of the liners. SO uses a bumpy texture and Nu Source uses a texture that looks woven. I was not able to draw any conclusions based on the texture differences alone. (maybe SO's liner is easier to clean??)

Conclusion:
My conclusion is that the Nu Source liner is a quality material that as good as SO's premium KRL drawer liner at a fraction of the price. It was also pleasure dealing with Eric at Nu Source. Based on drawer dimensions he was able to come up with the most cost effective ordering option for me.

Cool....thanks for the update!

Looks like the Nu-Source liner really gave it a fresh and clean look. Can you see light through the woven material? Or is it coated with something?

Thanks for the information. It does look like the stuff in my KRL box. I may have to update my old "Premier Edition" box.

No, it's not porous or woven. It's just made with that texture pattern. (probably for good gripping)

Thanks for the great review! I greatly appreciate it and am really glad it worked for you.

The KRL in your picture is actually a 6lb PE Foam that was very popular in SO and MATCO tool boxes. We actually did make a similar (If not exact) liner in the past, but it was difficult to cut, ship, and tended to bunch up in the tool box over time. I thought it didn't hold up to daily use as well at it should.

I actually have a few second quality rolls of it still sitting in Inventory. But we won't cut it or size that style any longer.

The PVC is on a scrim rather then blowing it which allows our material to be stronger. Hope that helps!

Bookmarked this thread, one of my projects when I move is re-lining an old Kobalt box...this stuff looks like it'll do the trick better than repurposed kitchen cabinet liner.

Hi guys,

I also recently purchased some liners from Eric at Nu-source. First off, it was a pleasure dealing with Eric. He answered all my questions, gave me lots of size options, and shipped my order fast. Awesome job.

The liner material is great. I had some bits and pieces of various liners laying about (Harbor Freight, eBay, etc.) and the Nu-Source material beats them all. It cuts well (just use a new blade), is easy to position in the drawer and once down holds tight, no odor or greasy residue on the material (seems to be common with some of the Chinese stuff), has a great texture and is made here in the USA.

I used it to line a Craftsman Grip-Latch chest/box combo and it looks great.

Great write-up, but none of your images, in any of your threads, work anymore :-(

Drop box changed the hosting links but here's what the new liner looks like:

So far I've been very happy with it. It's thin (that's good), lays flat, tough and grippy in the drawer and with the tools. I think it's the same as the new SO KRL liner just with a different texture pattern.

I'm also happy I bought the whole role.

Thanks for the pics man! I just looked at the website, which has changed to https://nsimaterialsgroup.com/pages/automotive-supply-liners#tbl and the info now says they are 3mm (0.118 inches) thick. They also have two variants, high tack and medium tack. No idea which to go with, haha. They say the high tack is like the Matco liners and medium tack is like the KRL liners.
