**ANYBODY CAN POST IN THIS THREAD PICTURES OF THEIR TOOLS**

I Wll Start with MY collection

I am 26 and live in the officially most isolated city in the world. I live in Perth Western Australia, and it is faster for me to go to Antarctica than to the other side of my country. With isolation comes a very poor selection of tools available. I have always been interested in tools. My father is German and always instilled in me the concept that it is better "to buy good quality tools because it saves you from having to buy twice".

We don't have lowes, sears, walmart or any of those large chains where i live. My city is mostly involved in mining and construction. As a result there is a lot of imported tools from Japan , Germany, Sweden, along with Taiwan and Chinese tools. American tools are almost non existent and as far as im aware there is one snap on tool truck in my entire town and the prices are very prohibitive. As a result i have scoured old swap meets and purchased some very old but quality tools, I have resorted to personally importing my own quality tools from Europe and in my poorer days as a student purchased a fair amount of poor quality Chinese-Taiwanese tools. I also happen to have some tools that were manufactured in Australia.

I don't have a large collection due to the huge cost of bringing in the tools from Europe and Japan to Australia but wanted to represent the Australian tool collector/owners from the West.

my tools are pretty clean as:

a) i have a tote with crappy tools that i leave in the house for messing about and dirty work, and

b) i clean all my tools before putting them back, we have a climate here that induces rust in everything, even stainless steel tools will rust out. Putting them back wet or dirty will usually develop into rust within a few weeks.

So for the record YES, I DO USE MY TOOLS

I present my humble collection ;)

I've got a bunch of Knipex, a little bit of Wera and Wiha.

But those red and white pliers you posted look different - and they couldn't even get the letters in the right order for New South Wales?!

:)

Some of the old Australian tools are great the old sidchrome and Dawn stuff. Dad a farmer would never buy OS tools back in the day as they just couldn't hack the conditions in the Ozzie bush in his experience.

I got a white international roll cab and top box, i got it off ebay actually, it came from QLD, but by the time it got to me it had a huge dent in it that i had to knock out

from memory it was on special i paid 499 for the both, so even after the detn was still a damn good price

Looks like you have a great sellection of tools, I have a few of them yellow Stanley screwdrivers

Thanks!, I just wanted to show what a strange mix of European and Japanese tools are available here. We see very few American tools. Those stanley screwdrivers arent bad but the tips are very soft from my experience is destroyed a few of the phillips ones.

Ha, the norwegian word is skiftenøkkel. Skifte = shift/change, nøkkel = wrench (also means key)

Top to bottom:

Bahco - made in Sweden
Bahco - made in Sweden
Kongsberg - made in Norway
Kamasa - made in Japan
Kongsberg - made in Norway

You've got some nice stuff for living anywhere, especially somewhere so isolated. I like to scour pawn shops and flea markets for old stuff here, though there's lots of new tools that are affordable. I just prefer the older stuff. I've got a few of the Stahlwille wrenches and I like them a lot. Even got a Siddchrome wrench or two. I'd like to pick up some Hazet stuff one of these days. :)

Do you actually use any of those tools? I'm in the same state but I use my tools to make a living and most of the brands you have in your box I wouldn't touch from either extreme cost or extreme shitfullness.

I use them for working on my car, rennovating my house and doing a lot of electronic work. Im sorry that my tools disappoint you. I dont find any of my tools "****" and what I pay for them is my business. If you dont have something nice to say dont say it.

I'm watching this thread with interest!

Never really thought about western Australia and it's (now obvious) isolation. I'd bet it's tough to get tools to that locale. And you definitely don't want to have to buy a tool twice.

Nice stuff! Those deep offset double box ends are sweet!

Hi jedi gazza,
Not a bad looking collection you have, plenty of tool shops in PERTH, THE TOOL BOX isn't a bad tool truck to use. heaps of places selling SIDCHROME,TENG,KINCROME,SP,etc...
You just need to get out more.Going to swap meets,GUMTREE,QUOKA and ebay work for me, just wait and pick the sellers with free post.
Most of my stuff new & used is SIDCHROME and any other brand I find and try, If its **** I replace with another brand, I took a chance and grabed a set of cheep CROSSMEN combo spaners (met & sae usa made) draged them around for the 4 years to lots of mine sites now and still looking good. The stanley screw drivers you have, I also have a set for over 25years
Cheers
Tony

Hazetcart_zps3f7ea59c.jpg

Where the HELL did you get that Cart! you have a beautiful collection. How do you feel about the Ko-Ken tools. I think they are pretty close up there with the German tools.

Hi Booney, yeh there is some serious isolation here, the tools either come here and are crazily priced, or they just dont come here. The other alternative is cheap Asian tools. There's still a lot of old British stuff floating around and post WW2 Australian made stuff floating around, but due to its collect ability is also highly priced.

I guess my father was right when he said buy once. But more importantly look after what you have or it will be rusted out and destroyed within a year, we have a very hot humid summer and a wet winter.

The box end spanners are Hazet 620 series. They are nice, i got them only because there was a good deal on them, i previously had a set of Beta 90 series box end spanners, and they looked as if the QA guy had fallen asleep on that day they were made. very poor stampings, poor Finnish, poorly tooled. I decided to relegate them to the sacrificial tool set that i have

Hi Tony,

Thanks for the kind words, there are some pretty good tool shops i agree, i used to go to a few of them but they didnt really stock exactly what i wanted so i started finding my way onto ebay and gumtree.

I love the aussie made sidchrome and siddons stuff. the new stuff isnt bad but nowhere near he quality of the old stuff.

I have been doing what you do, i have an entire tool kit of random stuff that i use for really ****** jobs and if the tool is a casualty i dont care.

Please post up some pics of your sidchrome stuff and the crossmen spanners , id love to see what you have so i can get some ideas.

I have a very old set of those Stanley screw drivers made in australia, they have yellow and black striped handles, they never seem to quit.

Most of my Hazet tools (including the cart) came from Amazon.de. I got the Koken 3/8" hex and torx bit sockets from Rakuten Japan, only because the Hazet ones are limited in 3/8" sizes.

I see that you like Stahlwille, she was my first love but I switched to Hazet because their tools are easier to obtain, especially from Amazon.de and tbs-aachen.de - both will minus 20% VAT.

Nice collection you got there ;)

Beautfully put together set. I do like Stahlwille, thats only because I used to have BMW's and they are the manufacturer "in Australia atleast" for the specialty tools, I also like the finish on them and the ergonomics, however the i rate the Hazet tools in my collection on par with the Stahlwille, its just a personal preference of mine. Smart idea to use Amazon, i had no idea they would post here. I mainly used ebay, but the postage is such a killer.

Amazon.de shipping is quite reasonable, much better than eBay sellers for bulky/heavy items. Their customer service is amazing, they'll even partially refund your returns cost even if you change your mind!

Browse for Hazet, Gedore and Knipex at more than 50% off Aussie prices (maybe you can resell on eBay?). There's a 20% discount at checkout since sales tax (VAT) is not charged for shipments outside the EU.

I find it intriguing that Bunnings can sell it for a good price (when compared to buying from Germany). Whereas Masters have rip off prices for Stahlwille and Knipex (when compared to buying from Germany).
