I always loved the looks of these and have admired many resto threads for them. I've been watching CL for a good deal and picked this up the other day. Runs smooth and quiet.
The motor was replaced at some point with a 1/2hp Dayton and it has recieved a coat of paint sometime in the past.
Tear down was easier than expected, it all came apart quite nice.
Missing the chuck key but otherwise complete.

Tearing into this motor now. I want to wire a toggle switch into the side of the head. The old wiring job worked, but was poorly done. I really have little experience with wiring. Is it possible to change this from a two prong plug to a three? Witch wire should I interrupt with the toggle switch? Thank you!

Changing from two-prong to three-prong is easy. Run your green ground wire to a screw on the motor base. That will ground the whole case in the event of a short.

Which wire to splice your switch to ? The black one. As the black wire comes in from the plug, go to the switch. Then run the white switch wire (or another black if you have it) from the switch to the black motor wire.

Thanks Jakemac, thats what I was thinking, just wanted to make sure.
I had an empty hole in my head that needed filling... Drilled it out and test fit the new toggle power switch I picked up. Perfect :)

I worked on the base earlier today. Stripped with wire wheel on an angle grinder to bare metal, primmed and a few coats of paint. I ike the rustoleum proffesional paints, just wish they had more color options. A little darker would be nice but this is going to look great regardless. Need to finish DA'ing the machined surface tomorrow.

Spent a good twelve hours or so today on this. A lot of work polishing each and every little piece and waxing all the bare metal. Wired up and works perfect. I can balance a nickle on edge on the table while turning it on and off..
Still need to tackle a few small things. The newer motor just doesn't look right, but runs real strong. I think I'll paint it silver with black ends so it matches a little better.
