Tool Review : PROTO Duratek Screwdrivers (Extreme chemical testing)

Hey Everybody -

I just put up a review for the new PROTO Duratek screwdrivers. These are advertised as being extremely chemical resistant, so I decided to put that claim to the test....literally. I submerged 7 different ones in different chemicals for 24 hours & I think everyone will be surprised at the results.

A normal screwdriver, plastic handle tool, painted tool, or anything with a rubber grip will become harmed/disformed/swollen/etc when exposed to some chemicals almost instantly.....where other chemicals may only stain them. But PROTO came up with the new Nylon Alloy injected handles, and they can withstand a lot more contact for a lot longer than your standard tools.

As far as the review goes, I focus a lot more on the chemical resistance of these VS explaining how a screwdriver works.....since I think we all know the answer to that one already. Especially since the whole "Duratek" branding is mainly focused around the new handle design anyway.

Also, I really like to shape, weight, feel, and quality with these.....they are now my go-to favorite screwdrivers in my box.

They look awesome, not a fan of the color scheme though.

Good review as always. I would like to a tool in action kind of review. If you hands are greasy or oily does the screwdriver grip well

I bet they would sell more if they did Snap-on neon green

Wow I didnt even of that....good idea....I will definitely incorporate that into future reviews like this.

great video. They look like great drivers. I want to put one in my hand before i purchase a set.

That being said, I also have the new not released channellock screwdrivers in mind.

You could buy the MAC version with red and black handles.

The stubbies in both lines are have all red handles.

There's another excellent you tube video from Proto on how the duratec screwdrivers are made in South Carolina.

It's funny that Proto renamed these screwdrivers. In their 2012 catalog they referred to these screwdrivers as "Quad lobe"

Being able to survive a chemical bath is ok but, what I like most about these screwdrivers is the shape of the handle and how it fits my hand. The flutes combined with the tapered shape provide for powerful turning even when covered in ATF or coolant. The little ridges toward the handle bottom make a nice speed zone for easy finger spinning.
The working half of the screwdriver, the blade is well finished, the tips seem durable so far.
I think Zorro has the best price on the 8 piece combination set with heavy duty bolstered blades at just under $65.00. I think this is the best US made screwdriver set on the market today.

Good review! I thought the brake cleaner or acetone would have done some damage, very impressive.

I have a 6pc set I purchased at a local proto dealer. Got them for $40. Check out the local guys first. You can get great deals. I own some Klein,snap on instinct, Williams hard handle and Cornwell(Witte). Yea I own way too many. But the Proto are my new favorites. Hands down. I want the nut driver sets. I will have my local guy order them for me. I may be selling some of my screwdriver sets soon and go all proto.
