Good day Garage / Concrete enthusiasts.
My home was built 6 years ago in the far corner of Northwest Indiana. The flatwork installers poured on a very hot dry July day. Donan engineering came out to determine the cause of my driveway and exposed garage lip scaling: the most likely cause is due to improper installation (too much air entrapment combined with water being used on the surface in an attempt to extend the worktime).
Despite being sealed every few years the driveway and the garage door lip is beyond hope. The driveway replacement quote is for ~6K. A repair using an epoxy sealer followed by EliteCrete polymer is for ~4K.
I need advice on how to repair the exposed garage floor lip.
I believe what I should do is put a ‘7 in x 14-Segment Concrete-Cutting Circular Saw Blade’ Dry blade into my tracksaw (normally used for wood cutting) and cut a ¾” deep groove about 1” up into the garage (well within the epoxy protected area). This will give me a clean line to work from.
From here should I hand chisel or rent a 5” cement grinder to remove the surface of the lip?
The front of the lip can be dammed with a board so that I may pour a new lip.
What is a good material to pour here?
Note that I have ZERO experience in concrete.
