i only managed to snap a few pics the night of the closing, but will take more this weekend...

we've got a few things to do before we move in, then i will tackle the garage... its a great oversize with a seperate workshop in back...

the previous owner was also a big car guy... collected jags and had a ferrari racecar, so i'll pay homage to some of the car which were worked on in this garage... i found some old posters of his in the basement which i'll frame and hang after i paint the garage...

we are so excited for this new place and i hope i can come close to the quality of work i have seen on the garages i have seen on this board... :rocker:

as always, welcome any feedback and recommendations!!!

That looks like a really nice house. How big is the lot?

Hopefully you can keep the lift! lol

Thanks for the kind words.. the land is 170'x150' (0.6 acre?) on the side of the house there used to be a tennis court which is now abandoned.. i'd eventually want to build a barn/workshop there...

and yes the lift is mine now... :rocker:

The house, property and most import - the garage-look perfect. I am also from North Jersey. I hope the taxes do not discourage your future plans. Good luck.

sorry i've been radio silent lately... since we closed on the house, it has been a whirlwind... we finally just sold our old house yesterday and we welcomed our first addition to the family... Chloe will be 2 months next week and she already has dad wrapped around her little finger... i tell my Mrs that in 16 years i'll either be dead or in jail...

nice bike lift. congrats

Very nice home. Nice score on the lift too. I am surprised he did not take the lift with him since its portable.

thanks... its a midrise snap on... already put to great use with oil changes, tire rotations and brake jobs... the previous owner was moving to Florida and the lift is easily about 1000 lbs, so i made him an offer on it and he used the money to buy a 4 post down there... i'd eventually like to try and get more clearance by changing the garage opener to a side lift and seeing if i can pull the track tighter to the ceiling... i already have plans to try and move the lighting and if i eventually need more space and do a bedroom addition over the garage, i'll try to lift the ceiling for a 4 post so i don't have a car sitting outside in the winter...

congrats on the new place! what part of NJ is it in?

thanks! i'm in Morris county... i moved from Essex since the taxes were killing me...

Great!!! Happy wife, happy life.... HUGE plus with the backyard shop!!! I can't wait to see pics of that!!

here are some more angles of the garage

the shelving is no longer there... i moved them to the basement so that we can park my wife's SUV in there and she needed room on that side for the baby...
IMG_2161_zpswlbubieg.jpg

so the MR2 now lives on the lift side...
IMG_2162_zps2a9q5wa4.jpg

i've got 30,000 BTU gas heat and a little window A/C unit on the wall... that heater was so nice this past winter when i was in there doing maintenance. i def need to think about insulating the garage, on days when it was 10F outside, the garage was pretty damn close to 10F too...

IMG_2160_zpsxzbbowmy.jpg

so behind door #1 on the left side, is a little unfinished workshop... it's about 5'X8' and has a barn door to the backyard... i'm planning to insulate it, redo the bench and maybe do a wrap around... i'd like to store the air compressor in here and plumb lines into the garage with drops through the ceiling... i realized that with two full sized cars/SUV the garage is short, so i need to reorganize where i stick my tool chest and shelving for organization...

Thanks Jim... I am really enjoying Morris county and what it has to offer... downtown Motown has a ton of restaurants and bars... the snow this year was ridiculous but I think that was Winter's last stand...

Missed this first time around. What kind of guy leaves behind his lift? Seems odd. But good score!

he was going to take it down to Florida with him to sell to his buddy but I paid him a fair price to leave it... when we initially wrote up the offer, I included the lift in my bid... he declined so we negotiated it separately after we agreed on a price for the house... it felt good last summer to do an oil change not on my back...

Awesome garage, with tons of potential! for the back room, you have a lot of potential. You can check out what i am doing for some ideas and inspiration, as i have a similar situation

Mine has a lean-to on the side of it, which i am using as a work shop. It has a small sand blast cabinet, bench grinder, belt sander, work bench, storage, and eventually a big air compressor, drill press and parts washer. the garage will be for working on cars only - think of it as a surgery room, so i want it clean and ready for projects. the lean to will be for machine shop type work, drilling, sanding grinding, tearing down and stripping stuff.

HUGE congrats on Chloe, she's a heart breaker!

My own heartbreaker daughter gave me a granddaughter last July and I am over the moon about her. Anything her heart desires is my goal. I'll let her mom & dad worry about her being spoiled (well, not really but you get it!)

Enjoy the heck out of Chloe's childhood, it's goes FAST.

PS: Beautiful new home. Very nice to see a new young family making their way. Thumbs up!

thanks for the kind words... congrats on the new grand... my parents told me that it was my job to say "no" to my kids, but it's their job to say "yes" and leave me to deal with the consequences... :lol_hitti

thanks for the link... i'll definitely check it out... i'm liking your idea about keeping the separate room as a clean surgery room... especially if i can build engines in there... if i can, maybe ill remove the wall and have a crane that can pass between both rooms.. but i'm getting ahead of myself... :rocker:

Congrats on everything! I have two of those SnapOn mid-rise lifts so you got a good lift to work with. The only thing is to watch the safety latch as some of them weren't welded good from the factory and have a tendency to break, glad I wasn't under mine when it did. The area to look at is the sleeve where the ratchet stop slides into. They are rated for 6500lbs but I have had my F-250 super duty up on mine, i don't leave it lfted I put stands under it.

Nice looking house and a great garage to start with. A little cleaning and a fresh coat of paint and the place will look totally different.

Awesome news on the daughter, just remember, as great as kids are, grandkids are even better.

No it didn't collaspe. What happened was when I lifted what I was going to work on I set the lift against the safety stop. The welds on the sleeve that the ratchet block slides in and out of broke and let the lift drop until it hit hydraulic pressure. When it did this it pulled the lock pawl as far as it could though the hole and broke the tab for the release mechanism off. That little tab passed me a mach speed I think and took me a few minutes to figure out what just happened. I called my SO dealer and he had the factory call me to find out just what happened, the lift was just days old to me. After some discussion about how the safety lock should be done they sent me a new lift and never picked up the old one which is why I have two of them now.

thanks, I've tried to move it using the hydraulic pump and it was fine to scoot a few feet here and there, but I couldn't imagine if I had to push it out to the driveway to do work on my truck and try to wheel it back into the garage...

cheers mate... once it warms up, I plan to get some paint up (i agree i think that will make a huge difference) and then i'll figure out layout... then eventually the floor...

did you fix the old one? any tips if I have to fix it... I do notice sometimes that the safety doesn't catch as I lift the car up... I have to manually push the latch up a few times and then it will catch and I can safely drop the car on the lock... i'll prob look at it this spring and give it a once over...
