They are SAE 7/32 -1/2 and the 1/4 is 8 point.
The exact size I will have to get but it is small.

Woo hoo! I'm cornering the market on Wright 2400's...I have one with a 1973 production date, now this one. I think I must have lost my mind.

I already have one too, but I was certainly tempted. Thanks for buying it before I did. :)

Craftsman set and misc 1/4 sockets are still up for grabs.

That surprises me, I liked the box and the ratchet for sure. I am surprised no one else jumped on it. The box is great on it's own, I still like to use boxes like that to keep my 1/4" stuff in for using daily.

I would speak for it, but with Christmas this close and 4 kids, every green brother is spoken for! :lol_hitti

It stikes me as odd how these 1/4" sets of yesteryear always seemed to have the stray 8 point socket parked right in the middle of the lineup like the red headed step child. Any older guys from that era care to explain why this was done? I was born in 1962 so I don't have a clue. Montgomery Ward sets of that era were the same. :headscrat

I have a early 50s era Snap-On 1/4" set I got at a flea market; it has quite a few 8 point sockets as well! From what some people are saying around here; "square" shaped fasteners were more common then they are now and thus the inclusion of them in the earlier sets.

Example of square "plugs" for differential, intake cooling, engine blocks etc.

I've noticed older machinery or fixures seem to have these square nuts/bolts aplenty!

I was aware of that, it just seemed strange to mix sets like that, but I think it was something most did. The strange part is, in the 1/4" drive size it generally really limited the 6pt sizes the sets went to generally less than even 3/8" which would sacrifice the most commonly used 3/8" 7/16" 1/2" sizes from inclusion in most sets! Anyway just an observation.

62 also so i don't know the intended use, but i have a few 1/4" 8pt sockets in my toolbox for torquing band adjustment screws. i think the early sets may have included them because square nut's were more common on machine screws "back in the day".
