Hey GJ,

Long time lurker, but I finally decided now that I'm progressing along with my garage plans that I better get a account lined up and start documenting this.

I purchased the house this May 2014 and am still settling into home ownership. When purchasing my first home, my only concern was the garage. Everything else was flexible.

Picture of home upon purchase:
1939900_443228089141209_1520661045_n.jpg

Anyway, onward to the "build".

Quick Garage Bio:
-Built in 2005
-24x28ft
-Insulated Walls/Roof
-10.5ft Tall
-"Shelving" already installed upon purchase (will be removing most)
-10x25 Gravel/Cement block parking pad beside garage
-Wired for 220v w/ outlet

The bad:
NO PONY WALLS + CANADIAN WINTER
(Needing to sort out my water seepage issue)

Here are some photos I took to begin, garage is 24x28 (Approx). It can hold 2-3 cars somewhat comfortably with room for all my tools and such.

Excuse the photography - I'm currently up at site and the only photos I have access to are my Flickr account so I will update as I go.

Here is what the 10x30 parking pad looked like when I purchased the house. I had to take down that stupid gate, it barely moved and was apparently installed by a 3 year old.

Did some trim painting, old stuff was terrible.
10250124_452120611585290_972334413_n.jpg

More trim painting and changed out the light to one that is a little better, will be going LED with these two ASAP.
10171641_452074694923215_2117690427_n.jpg

Went LED motion with the light facing my parking pad and garage entrance.

I've signed the contract to get the gas line ran to just outside the garage from my meter, and I've also coordinated getting the trenching done for that gas line hopefully for this next set off (Starting the 28th).

Will also be tearing out a bunch of drywall and getting some electrical work done in preparation for the hoist, air compressor and all the lighting.

OMG, i want your garage! That sucker is huge! I really wish the whole Albertan phenomenon of having alley ways was more prominent here.

Haha thanks dude! When I bought the house the whole ally was covered in snow so I had no idea it was all paved, and nobody told me during sale, was the best spring gift my house has given me! Haha

Well after looking at the photos I posted over and over again, I finally got absolutely fed up with my current garage door system.

Appointment booked for the 28th - high lift conversion, Liftmaster 8500 and a track reduction.

Also booked for the 28th (hopefully he replys to me soon) - trenching for gas line and trenching around whole garage to improve drainage and test out some ideas on sealing up my frame to slab water seepage issue under my drywall.

As well, my insurance adjuster is arriving on the 28th to assess all my hail damage that destroyed my garage/house. Im assuming it to be well in excess of $30,000 in damage.

I'll post pictures when I'm home from work on Wednesday.

(The high lift conversion is not only for looks... hint hint)

Let the modifications begin!

I finally took the time to post up some of my hail damage photos… hopefully have this all fixed before year end.

Shredded my BBQ cover (that I bought 2 days prior!)

Put a bunch of weird cuts/dents in my door trim on my back door

Put a hole through the first pane of my bedroom window, and destroyed all the siding/window moulding.

All drainage pipes got pretty ruined

Literally every vehicle that was parked outside was covered in dents, there was not an inch on these vehicles that had went unscathed.

Insurance adjuster coming on the 28th, wish me luck! :yikes:

Great start! It looks like you've got plenty of space in your garage, and a sweet parking pad next to it too. The Eight Six wasn't parked outside when the hail came through I hope?

Nope! Thank goodness! Haha

I was inside the garage when it all started happening. My 86 was parked inside and we were working on my buddies Supra, i heard it start to come down and sprinted through my house, grabbed keys and went out front and went Mach potato in my buddies S13 240sx to bring it around back and into the garage, I saved it for the most part but it still got a couple good dents.

***** your house suffered so much damage in that hail storm, Airdrie definitely took the brunt of it! I am in NW Calgary and we had a pretty bad storm a couple of years back that caused similar damage to quite a few homes near me. Luckily the damage we got at my house was much less, and the cars were sleeping soundly in the garage.

Good luck with your insurance claim and the repairs, hopefully they can get it all fixed quickly!

Did I hear somebody say "Rick's Audi Double"? LOL

It's great to see another project so close to me. You guys sure got rocked by that hailstorm a few weeks ago. Reminded me of July 12, 2010 when my Q7 was pretty roughed up. I guess the good thing is that the insurance companies here know what they are doing since it isn't that uncommon. All the best. You never know, you may even come out ahead in the end. My insurance company cut me a cheque for $3k and I got the damage repaired for half that amount.

Great garage, and you were probably better off going with a property in Airdrie considering the price difference as well as more lenient building codes. I'm sure I will enjoy watching you put your touch on your space. I liked that photography too, btw.

Best of luck!

Thanks a bunch Rick! Calgary's pricing and building codes made it senseless for me to live there if I just fly to work, I think it all worked out for the best. I'm still looking into ways to make my parking pad into a covered car-port, but I'm having trouble with the laws behind it - we will see, Airdrie does seem pretty leinent!

Ouch, that's rough. I would be freaking out untill all that got repaired, best of luck getting it all squared away with insurance, I'm sure they're going to have their hands full with claims.

So you've told us about the house/garage and its current state, how about some more about your cars? Specifically the IS (I am not biased).

That is crazy! Sorry to hear man. I used to live in Calgary, up in Edenstone and it always seemed to be a different climate up on the hill. I remember some crazy storms up there.

Best of luck with insurance!

Modifications Awaiting Install:
(aka: sitting on my shelves for what seems like forever)

2JZ-GTE (Supra/Aristo) Motor:
-Motor is currently all disassembled and I am compiling the parts to finish it and have it 1000hp+ capable bottom end and a 8500RPM capable head.

I'm probably missing a few things but you get the idea. The whole premis of the build is to do it 100% no holds-barred perfectly the first time, and not ever regret settling for anything in the future.

Its a long build, but I'm hoping to have the engine in the car for summer 2017. My goal is to crack 1000HP before 25, so we will see!

If youd like to see more pictures of it feel free to creep my Instagram @pfdallas or I can send you photos/info!

Woa!

at 22 you are killing it! DO WORK

But thank you!

I have to give all the credit to my parents, not in the "free" money sense because that was never abundant growing up nor given to me at any time, but as government employees they both ensured I knew the value of money and how to save it and make it work for me. I cant give them enough credit!

Beautiful cars, impeccable taste to go with the garage. Beautiful fitment with those work wheels. A 2JZ-GTE backed with a V160 would be a dream for me, but with a young kid isn't in the cards at the moment.

But like I said I am not biased...

OMG! Small world!

I have been drooling over your car on Kijiji for a whole week, it was a tab on my browser for days, I cant stop telling myself I need another one. It would appear we own the same car too, Black on Black, full leather, sunroof, 5spd manual, and my car has 131,000km's.

I want your car in the worst way possible as a daily driver. But i keep telling myself subconciously that I need a truck for all this garage work.

But agreed, I plan on going V160/161 eventually but I have a R154 kicking around that I'll be using first. To go V160 I have to swap in a GS400 or Supra rear end and do a ton of other work, so at least the R154 is strong than our W58 for now and the ratios will be correct.

I can see how not  bias you are! haha

Edit: I dont see it on Kijiji anymore! :(

I wish I could take credit for building it but I can't. I had one years ago and wanted to get one again just as a summer car, came really close to buying a 2013 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG but was hesitant to dump that much into a toy. When this one popped up it was so clean I bought it on the spot (that's why it is off kijiji). I was just laughing because it appears that yours is identical!

Well after 14 days at away for work I was itching to get some work done on the garage/house. I was up since 4pm the day before, worked a 12 hour nightshift, flew home and got right to it. (Don't ask me how, exhaustion was very prominent) First place I went after the flight, liquor store for a 12 pack, then straight to Home Depot where I spent a decent amount of money to set myself up for a productive week.

Here are a few of the things I picked up. Pressure washer has been a long time coming, much needed!

Thank goodness for my roommate/renter who happens to be my friend and whom owns a truck! :rocker:

Here is the shot of under the deck again, I hate how this is just wasted space, its prime time to do something about it. I feel like it would be an ideal spot to rid my garage of all the unsightly things such as mower, weed eater, shovels, grass seeding things, etc!

15061057182_f008f14bcd_b.jpg

Keep in mind, I've never done any landscaping, or really any customized yard work. And my carpentry experience is no better, feel free to chime in if you have some ideas or anything!

When are they going to install the new siding?

Does that tagged construction sign say Do Work Son?

Insurance adjuster is coming today, after that Ill get the cheque and start on the repairs.

Haha it said something of that nature, I gave it to a buddy and he didn't want it, so here it be.

Those who own Work wheels use that type of sign when they park near knockoffs.

Haha well our car club has been known to be VERY outspoken about knockoffs.

facebook.com/defendauthenticity is our page haha.

I'm personally very strong minded about supporting original design and R&D.

That's the one I'm looking to get once i get to that stage. From my understanding is the "C" is actually just for the Canadian built ones. Did you already purchase yours? If not i found a great price at this place.

http://www.overheaddoorparts.ca/

Thats actually just about the price I paid, my guy had them in stock in calgary and in bulk supply so he saved on shipping (is what he told me). Ill let you know how I like it after today! Moving into a new place with a ****** opener, no passcode to reset the keypad and no garage door "clicker" was pretty ****** haha.

Guys came in to do the garage door modifications today! Im amazed at how much it opens up the garage, its one of the best modifications to do in my opinion. Feels like a totally different garage! (Ahem, dubber)

Still have to hide a few wires and get a electrical outlet over here, but that's minor.

Also, this is where I left off yesterday with my under-deck "shed".

This got accomplished today, then it rained. I wanna frame it all up and get walls in dammit!

Insurance adjuster also showed up.. not as much as I was hoping. Apparently in my part of the country they only cover and pay for the damaged sides of the house, my front and left side were not damaged so they didn't cut me a cheque for those - even if the siding won't match apparently they won't cover it. Hopefully I find some that matches!
