There's a whole bunch of Cardpool threads on Slickdeals, it seems like this (and other gift card resale sites) is basically gambling.

There's two ways you get scammed on this, #1, they send you the card numbers, but they use the card themselves and it's empty by the time you use it. #2, people steal merchandise and return it for store credit and sell the store credit to these sites. When they get busted, HD/whoever will empty the card and you're left with zero.

I've thought about it myself for larger purchases, but in the end, I usually just end up skipping that chance because saving 13 bucks on every $100 isn't worth potentially losing 100 on every 100. I'll take my 2% cash back and extra warranty through my credit card.

The common advice is to use the cards immediately after you purchase them, but it's still potentially taking part in criminal activity.

I am a huge fan of buying giftcards at a discount, and have had great experiences with them for a while, until recently. I took a pretty new gift card to HD and there was a 19 cent balance on it. I used the balance and contacted ABC Gift Cards. They were quick to refund me my money and it was not a big deal. Gift Card Zen is nice because you don't have to wait for the gift card to come in the mail. Their electronic gift cards are printable and come with a bar code that the cashier can scan. This makes it very versatile and I buy one a day or so in advance when I know I'm going to be going to the store.

It's true there is some risk in buying discounted gift cards (damn thieves ruin everything) but the companies selling them recognize this and offer pretty solid guarantees. The advice to use the cards quickly is good advice.

I've bought a few discount cards and I've not had any problem. First thing I do when I get the card is go online to the company issuing the card and verify the value is exactly as it's supposed to be. Then use it within a week or 10 days if the amount is more than you are willing to eat.

I have bought gift cards to fast food restaurants and keep them in my wallet for whenever I visit there. I accept the risk in exchange for the discount and convenience.

I also just noticed that Cardcash.com has Autozone and Advanced Auto Parts gift cards discounted 20.3% through Sept 2nd.

I've ordered through Cardcash.com a few times without a problem.

So which sites offer guarantees? Is cardcash.com a trusted source?

Cardcash.com has a 45 day guarantee
Cardpool.com has a 100 day guarantee
Raise.com has a 60 day guarantee

Not sure how you define "trusted source" but like I mentioned above, I've ordered from Cardcash.com a few times without problem.

here's the way to do this to lower your risk. as soon as you get the card, go buy something for the entire value of the card or a little bit more. once you convert the credits to merchandise, no more risk. then, return all the merchandise for store credit and you get a new store credit card that no one else has yet. I did this for several cards I got off craigslist and other shady places to save up for a big purchase. had a couple thousand dollars worth for almost a year with no problems.

Or buy the discounted gift card when you need it and buy something right away like a normal person with not too much time on their hands.

I have been buying gift cards for the last 6 months for just about everything. I have had no problems as of yet and have saved a bunch of money....

I start at http://www.giftcardgranny.com/ and just search what ever im shopping for. I dont look at the ebay auctions but I have bought from all the others.

I try and combine a gift card with 20% off coupons or codes for a total saving 30-40%....
