The ongoing saga of Pigs in Spaaaace...no, wait, it's just my garage

In 1998 I bought a decent 1900 built Victorian with a detached garage.
It's pretty obvious that the garage had been rebuilt somewhere in the 1970s.
At the time of these pictures, I was not planning on staying but needed some shelves and benches anyway.

I ended up selling all of the benches and shelves to clean out and use the cash.
The next year I had decided to stay, so I had to start installing benches and shelves again and was getting ready to do some minor updates to the garage door lifter. Installed some heat as well.

Heater malfunctioned in March 2013. Garage caught on fire, lots of damage, lots of things lost. Luckily, car was in the driveway at the time as I was building a teardrop camper.

What was left of the fuel regulator after the fire. Most likely the cause of the problem.

Insurance covered everything and the garage got a basic rebuilding. They replaced the door, lifter, both windows, two walls, and the roof.

More to come as I have time...

After the rebuild was done, it was time for me to do something about getting some insulation and walls in place.

OK, so maybe tap off some of the loose stuff...um, OK, so let's dig some more to see how bad it gets. Maybe wash some of it off...well, looks like a little more than just a patch job.

So that's basically where I am now.
Did a little more yard cleanup, got on top of the garage and cut some branches back with the pole saw, and relaxed on the couch most of the day.
Next up is getting it to dry out, tamp it all firmly, and start setting up some forms to pour a footing.

Holy cow pictures! I like a lot of pictures, but many are of the same thing.
Are you leaving the place pink?
That foundation needs some work. Are you going to basically go down to frost line with the footing?

Good work, you certainly are not afraid of a challenge!!! I would think that you should be able to support one side of the garage at a time to pour new footers.

I like everything you're doing. It's looks very well done.

AND I'm also questioning using pink. It's certainly different; I don't THINK I've seen another pink garage on Garage Journal. I'll refrain from any sort of criticism; to each his own. Your garage, your money, your labor.

Lots of effort there, lookin good. I have a question about the ceiling insulation. Is it foam with heavy foil on both sides? Or?

I need to do the ceiling in my reno and was looking for something that insulates and has a finished side the stuff your using might just do the trick.

WOW. What I've learned from this thread: You are absolutely infatuated with Pepto Bismol, and your neighbors hate you. Carry on !!

The pink is primer. Near top of the line Behr.
One of those bix box return finds, normally something around that $100 mark, I know I didn't pay more than $20 for it.
I'll paint the garage a more "suitable" color when I can get to the walls again.

Lots of pictures, yes, will be smaller updates from now on but it was easiest to get them all posted to show the progression.

It's the 2" "Tuff-R" type foam insulation with foil on both sides.
Supposed to be R13.
The wall studs were pretty evenly spaced but the ceiling joists were all over the place. It was the easiest way to get something on the ceiling and it helps reflect the light.

It was pink pecause it was tinted and returned.
It was cheap for really good primer and it's come in handy quite a bit.
I don't mind the pink.

I thought the pink was used because it was a "mistake" that you bought on sale. Good way to save money and give fellow GJ readers something to talk about.

LOL!
It was somone elses mistake lord knows how many years ago.
Stupid bucket of primer has to be 10 years old or more now.
I couldn't pass up the deal, less than $20 for great primer?!?

I used it to prime a bunch of crappy sheetrock one year. I ended up with a batch of sheetrock while doing some bedroom renovations and whenever you tried to lay mud on it, it would rip all the paper off. I used the primer to paint it all first, then was able to patch it all.

A few years after, my parents were working on painting some trim red. Mom was putting 4 coats on and still not getting coverage. A coat of the pink primer and two topcoats of red and it was all it took.

Once I started working on the garage, I knew I needed to get SOMETHING on the walls to seal/prime it all. Pulled out the bucket of primer, put the mixer in the drill, stirred it up, and painted.

OK, so it's pink, PEPTO pink. Ah well, walls are sealed and clean, one color, and reflects light along with augmenting the shade of light from the cheap ultra-bright fluorescents. Not sure I want to actually paint over it.

The pepto-bismo garage.
And thanks, now I have pigs in space stuck in my head along with Link Hogthrob.

Thanks for the name, I kept coming up blank.
Makes my avatar all spiffy. :)
On car forum, this all typically goes in the "Other" section under "What I Did Today."
Joined here and need a thread title and because of the pink primer, it just popped into my head.

Right now resting, working on mocking up and making brackets for the gas tank and muffler on my Troy Bilt Horse tiller. Mashed the heck out of them and the air cleaner working on digging up the garage foundation. Bought an original bumper guard for it, now am fitting the gas tank, air cleaner, and highly modified (and hopefully a heck of a lot quieter) exhaust to fit within those confines and simplify a bit. I bought it with a much newer Briggs Intek 900 fitted to it. I thought I got a deal until I tore into it. Actually, I still think I got a deal because even with the new parts and labor I've put into it, I can't buy something this powerful for less than 2x what I have into it.

The "Pigs in Space" thing is too old for most of the GJ readers.

Sadly, I remember watching the shows on TV..

There were two other skits that were similar...
The one where they were in the operating room and the one where they were all dancing ballroom style...

Great stuff.

Working diligently on getting forms in place to fix the garage and also dig trenches for running conduit.
I need to pick up some more pallets and make more forms to do the full pour but I need to get the rebar in place first.

Kidding. I'm following with interest as to how you fix the foundation... and to see more butthurt over pink primer. Haha

Progress has been made. Updates have been lagging.
Dug a lot, founds lots of yard rubble, installed a lot of conduit, filled in a lot, added lots of rebar.
Nowhere close to being done, ache a lot, today am working on getting pull strings run through the conduit.
