Hey everybody
I just got done with my review of the Proto ASD Ratcheting Spline Wrenches.
In the past I have used many different types of them (ratcheting wrenches) & I never really liked them because of a few key issues. The earliest varieties (and also the currently cheaper varieties) do not have directional change switches, which quickly becomes a nightmare to deal with if/when you get them stuck.....such as when loosening the bolt that holds your idler/tensioner pulley in place. What is supposed to be a 5 minute job, quickly turns into an hour because now you are stuck trying to free your tool. I consider many of the other ratcheting wrenches to simply be gimmicks that do not work & I rarely use them.
Another big issue with the "one-way" ratcheting wrenches, is the fact that they have a 0 degree offset (to accommodate the need to flip them to change direction) & you end up scraping your fingers/knuckles constantly while using them.
Proto did a great job in my opinion with these & they are extremely comfortable to use & I like them a lot. The directional switch is recessed, and wont catch on your fingers or things you are working near. They built in a 15 degree offset on the boxed end, so you can move your hands above the work surface while working. And, they have 72 teeth in the ratcheting mechanism that gives you a 5 degree swing arc.
They are 100% Made in the USA & have a full lifetime warranty.

But at the same time, you know if they did that they would have to add a ton of import rebadge tools to fill the line. I'm pretty happy with them as a hard line industrial supplier. They're good at that.
