Welcome here Peter.
For those of you who have not seen his work. Peter is the king of the large panel sheet forming. I swear he can form the whole side of a car from one sheet.

Peter...welcome to Garage Journal. I'm looking forward to seeing updates on this. Fantastic sheet metal work

If you could, would, or even have pics of how you did it....could you show how you went from the first pic with the sheet metal just flared, to having it folded over to make the lip? Metal working like that amazes me to no end. Between MP&C, and your work that you show, I KNOW I want to get something to start working with sheet metal. Just amazing!!!!

How are the Aluminum panels attached to the chassis on a Maserati? I assume the innards are steel?
I once restored an Aston Martin DB-2 that lived through a few of our Canadian winters...I should of just started from scratch instead of punishing myself.
All the Alu. panels were simply crimped over steel sheet and tubing.. What an electrolysis mess..
I used the best electric tape money could buy in layers as a buffer at rebuilding time.
It's in a climate controlled building now, so I guess it didn't really matter.:)

Spectacular metal work!!! On a much more pedestrian AH 300 I redid many years ago the center part of the bodywork was aluminum and the outer oart was steel. There was some stuff called Celloseal that was the recommended goo you put between the panels to reduce (probably not eliminate) the electrolytic corrosion at the interface between the two metals.

Northrop Alpha NC-11Y......

hanging in the Smithsonian my Father's handiwork;

http://airandspace.si.edu/webimages/highres/80-2100h.jpg

he did did the wing and empannage increasing radius root fillets just designed by Guggenheim University

ONE ~40' piece of metal goes from the trailing edge around the leading edge and and back.....

stick that in an English wheel LOLOL

oh and TWA and the Smithsonian lied.....

the plane was originally maroon with a gold leaf Indian head on it

the POS doesn't have any fuel tanks, the originals were built by my Father...

I have letters from TWA requesting the photos of my Father and Jack Northrop working on the plane......

my Father asked them for a pass to fly back and work on the plane....they said NO....cheap bastards

then they had the BALLS to ask for the ID tag for the plane which is missing......

my Father gave me the Tag and said "you decide, whether they get it or not"

It's in a picture frame over my head...with a picture of it on its original test flight and I know who is flying it, the Smithsonian doesn't

when I croak it will be my little Sister's decision......they won't like that LOLOL

NASTYZEN....
The panel are attached to the body like a door skin is turned to the frame with the exception of bonnet and booth ,the frame and skin are spot welded together this way they are easier to gap
