I have 4 brand new Subaru STI coil springs that I keep holding onto because I keep thinking I could repurpose them something. Yes I've tried to sell them. No bites what so ever. Any ideas on what I could use them for? I don't have a Subaru. I did a google search but didn't come up with anything useful in my opinion.

I have seen kids hobby horses mounted on them and anchored into the ground.
Makes. For a great ride.

Tie a rope on one and drag it across your local lake you will snag all kinds of ****.

Or just scrap them.

I second this. Or you can weld a plate to one end, mount to a slug of concrete and bolt a board across the other, kind of make a rodeo seesaw out of them.

Don't bother welding anything to them unless its just for looks, spring steal doesn't weld well.

I take coil springs and cut coils off then cut the coil in half. Then I weld the half to trailers for tie down loops. They work great. Spring steel is extremely clean wire and it welds nicely.

You could also cut coils off and smash them down in a vice and **** weld the ends for rings.

Cut 1-1/2 coils from them and sell them on Craigslist to some rocket scientist as Lowered springs.

If that doesn't work they can be repurposed as scrap.
Don't get attached to them and think you have to do something with them

Where did you try to sell them ? Locally ? If they are brand new, I'd try to sell them on a Subaru forum as those cars seem to have a decent following.

To answer a couple questions/suggestions.....

Yes I have considered just tossing them in the scrap pile.

I've tried selling them on craigslist and on a WRX/STI forum. No luck.

I believe they ARE lowering springs because I seem to remember that the pink springs (which is what they are) are either lowering or performance springs.... I forget. I got them from a Subaru dealer I worked at years ago.

One member here said coil springs don't weld well and another that says the opposite. Any other thoughts on welding coil springs?

For now I'm just gonna hold onto them. I have a couple ideas in my head. We'll see what happens down the road....

Since they are new, I'd try to find someone that can use them for their intended purpose. How much they would be willing to pay :dunno: but IMHO it would be a bit of a shame to destroy something that is still useable as intended

Well one guy knows how and the other doesn't.

In general it's a bad idea, but people can and do get away with it in certain applications until that one day... Spring steel has a high carbon content and thus when welded becomes very brittle in the HAZ. Steps can be taken to mitigate the effects, such as pre and post heat depending on the steel in question, but it is not something you should rely on. Especially in a bending load situation, even more so in fatigue.

When I was a kid my neighbour used a set of springs off a Pinto on their pool diving board. Had an adverse effect, he went over the fence behind him.

STI springs shouldn't be that hard to sell to someone with a plain wrx. Not sure what price you listed them at but it must have been too high.

Cup holders, tool holder (think the large concrete breakers), cut rings and use for hanging stuff.

Cut 'em in ring thirds/quarters, mount on plywood or weld to plate metal to make a reel for hoses.

I welded an old tractor seat to one end on a couple of them and a piece of drive line to the other end, planted them in the ground outside the shop. A lot of fun to sit on at beer thirty.

Guy on nasioc listed for $295 obo and sold his. What were you asking? Which forum did you post on?

Some Google-fu showed you listed them on a Caviler Z24 site.

WRX guys are always all over those coils. Selling should be a piece of cake.

I believe that there is why you can't sell them. Have you tried selling them to a girl? No man wants PINK springs on his car, unless it's for his Barbie Mobile! :)

Maybe stereotyping but what about guys with boyfriends?
