I have been unsuccessful in finding replacement tips for my SnapOn gun. Sears sells essentially the same thing but they too do not offer replacement tips (atleast from what im finding).

SnapOn wants something like $60 for a new tip (basically the price of the gun from Sears) and although I dont have to replace the tips very frequently, every time I run one down I cringe at the thought of buying a new gun just to get a fresh tip...

Here'e the gun im referring to

Was hoping somewhere out there were replacement tips in the $30-40 range...

Look at the model # on the gun itself; it should be like this: ***.XXXXXX, then goto this site and search using that #.http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/index.action?pop=flush
All parts that available will come up with prices. We have tips at my store but they do not look like the type for your soldering iron; another option is to try to figure out who the OEM is for the gun; a couple of ways to figure this out is to use the UL listing # and the pat # to look up the company. I have had great luck doing this and some of these guys around here might know who makes them for Sears.

There are allot of companies that service the electronics industry, that might be of help; Radio Shack comes to mind but they have really cut back on their stuff (you might check them and see if they have any tips that would fit); another "real" company is Digikey, they have an incredible amount of electronic components and tools for the industry!

Here are a couple of links that might help:

yah awhile back we dissected my SO gun and pulled some info off it but came up short.. I love the gun because I abuse the hell out of it and it still works (minus the light). cant find anything else that will repeatedly solder 10-12ga. without a hiccup in a short period of time.

guess i'll look it over again tomorrow and see what I come up with.

thanks

You deserve it. Should have bought a Weller. lol

If you can't find a tip. Could you cut and thread the end of your iron and make a threaded copper sleeve to fit over the iron's tip and replacement tips. Radio Shack should stock Unger or American Beauty.

As you mentioned, it's a shame to scrap an iron for a tip.

Please, Wellers are like toys compared to that bad boy. Instead of replacing the tip on mine I caught one on sale at Sears for 50% off IIRC. You can grind that old tip to a point, a couple of times, before it gives it up altogether.

You got the best "hot" solder gun I have ever used/found. I just replaced a tip for the second time. Sears will now price match any posted price and I found the lowest price at tooldiscounters.com for about $35. Sears matched the price but shipping was killer at $11.
It only took 4 years to find this site and reply. Hope you find the information useful and you still use the gun.
