Unfortunately I'm not building a new garage, but adding to it. This is a 24x34 3-1/2 garage with a hip roof, 50-AMP sub panel and gas line. The plan is to add more vertical ties, collar ties, 8 more ceiling joists with an attic ladder. Add insulation and blow in insulation up top. OSB ceiling and walls. Top it off with completely redoing the electrical with outlets, T8 lights and a gas heater to keep things warm during these cold Wisconsin winters. Thanks for looking. Josh

In this picture you can't really tell, but I added 8 more 24' ceiling joists to the existing 8 that were all ready in. Along with vertical ties.

Here is the gas line going to the garage. I used CSST to run through the studs with nail plates. It is bonded with a 6 gauge wire to the panel with two shut offs. I bought a Mr. Heater 50K BTU unit from Northern Tool.

I had to rent one of those unit pods to store all of my things. Keeps everything weather proof and secure.

Here is a completed look at the top of things. 6 mil plastic and adding three outdoor sconce lights on either end of the garage doors in front and one by the walk in door on the side.

Amazing documentation. Looks great. Looking forward to hearing how you like the Mr Heater 50k. I was considering the same and a big maxx too.

Looks awesome, great work! Somehow I have a feeling that is not in Milwaukee proper though. :)

Two nit picks - the CSST should have been centered I think? It can be much more easily hit with an exterior siding renovation. I would make a note of its height in the wall, just to be safe, and save that picture. The hurricane clips are very good to have but probably need to be installed with either nails or structural connector screws. Construction screws are better than drywall screws, but still lacking in shear strength.

Thanks guys I'll have some new pictures soon. Finishing up the electrical and going to start the insulation soon. Here is a cell pic of the heater mounted.

Ish, I had the inspector out and he said he would pass it. Before the garage had no hurricane brackets so better than nothing I suppose. Thanks for the tips. If I ever sell everything will be made available to the new owner. Thanks.

Where did you get the brackets for the shelving?

I've been pricing some pallet racking but it doesn't fit the spacing between my windows. Those brackets look like just what the doctor ordered.

Edit: Never mind, I found a model # via Google search. I put everyone Home Depot had in stock on will call at two different stores.

If either of you wouldn't mind posting up those brackets it would be appreciated. I have pallet racks in my garage but these look like they would be nice for the shed out back for extra storage.

Sorry haven't posted on this in a while. Electrical is done, OSB walls are up, just need to button up the gas heater and move some things around so I can park the cars back in the garage. I'll post up some pictures this weekend.

Yes Will is right those are the Simpson Ties from Home Depot, you can also get them from other hardware stores as well. But since I get a military discount I always get them cheaper at HD.

Here is a DIY website that they put up for some project with the ties.

Thanks,
