this is 3/8-drive Williams B-51 reversible ratchet with insets for the reverse and side views. The shank has forged-in markings "B51 The Superratchet Patd." on the front, and "Drop-Forged J.H. Williams & Co." with the W-Diamond logo on the reverse. The reverse face is also stamped with the "Williams U.S.A." logo.

The overall length is 6.3 inches, and the finish is chrome plating with polished faces.

The ratchet mechanism has a 24-tooth drive gear with a pivoting pawl, and the shift lever is loosely coupled to the pawl to allow independent movement. The design is described by patent #1,957,462, issued in 1934 to W.C. Kress.

this is Craftsman C-97 1/2-drive open-style ratchet with its drive plug, stamped with the Craftsman block logo and model number on the shank.

The overall length is 8.5 inches, and the finish is chrome plating with polished faces.

The drive plug has a circular end cap, a style popular with some makers but which requires that the plug be removed to changed directions, rather than simply pushed through to the other side.

released between 1932-1936.

this is Craftsman "BT" 1/2-drive reversible ratchet, marked with "Drop Forged" forged into the handle, and with "Made in U.S.A." forged into the reverse. The head is stamped with the Craftsman block logo, and the small "BT" manufacturing code is (faintly) visible between the two screws at the bottom of the head.

The overall length is 9.6 inches, and the finish is plain steel, with extensive pitting due to rust.

This ratchet has a rather unusual arrangement for the shift lever, in which the lever arm passes through a hole in the forged body so that it can be actuated from the opposite side. Readers familiar with the Vlchek Tool Company will recognize this immediately as the Vlchek WSSR10 Reversible Ratchet, and a comparison of the photographs shows that the tools are basically identical except for the markings.

Apart from the unusual shift lever, the ratchet is a well made but conventional dual-pawl design with a 28-tooth drive gear.

This "BT" ratchet was first listed in the 1936 Sears Spring and Summer catalog as item number 6155, with a $1.98 price. Sears later included this model as the standard ratchet in otherwise all "BE" style socket sets.

3-superlube white grease
4-WD40
5- Turtle Wax Chrome Polish and Rust Remover
6-turtle wax heavy duty rubbing compound
7-sandpaper 400 grit and 1000 grit

Nothing like what you have, but I've recently started collecting some older Snap-On ratchets.

1951 - 1/2" drive NO. 71-M
1949 - 3/8" drive F-71-A
1942 - 9/32" drive M-70L

Used a pick to clean out the screw slots, wire wheel to knock off as much rust/corrosion as I could, Dawn dish soap to degrease them (dried immediately after to prevent rust), then some Never Dull to bring out some shine. Then, a coating of Mobil 1 synthetic wheel bearing grease. I'm new to cleaning old tools, I'll try your method of paint thinner and look into evapo rust.

this is Craftsman "K-Circle" 3/4-drive fine-tooth ratchet, stamped with "Pat. No. 2188846" and the Craftsman double-line logo, with a "K-Circle" manufacturer's code at the right.

The overall length is 17.7 inches, and the finish is chrome plating.

The patent notice cites patent #2,188,846, filed by T. Rueb in 1938 and issued in 1940, with assignment to the Sherman-Klove Company.

The Craftsman double-line logo and chrome-plated finish on this ratchet suggest production in the mid to late 1940s. & SOCKET SET

I'm new to cleaning old tools, I'll try your method of paint thinner and look into evapo rust.

that is really cool collection

Nice restoration on the craftsman box! I have a similar one that I have been meaning to restore. Mine is shallower and has a divider on the insider........i think it originally held a 1/2 or 3/4 set.

Great work work on your restorations! I work at Sears and part of my job is rebuilding ratchets and sometimes I get ones returned that we don't rebuild (discontinued models) but I like to tear them apart and try to make them work anyways. I still have 2 that I just couldn't get myself to throw in the "scrap tools" barrel.

this is Craftsman "BE" 1/4-drive open-style reversible ratchet, stamped with the Craftsman underline logo and a "BE" code on the top cover plate.

The overall length is 5.2 inches, and the finish is chrome plating.

The ratchet is reversible by rotating the pawl to work on the other side, and the side edges of the pawl are serrated to provide a grip (see top inset). The pawl bias is maintained by a spring-loaded ball carried in the pawl itself, rather than in the handle shaft.

Damn! I enjoyed looking through this thread! Love and I mean love the old restored Craftsman tool box. Seems like you could use a small blast cabinet and a vibrating tumbler polisher to work on some of these. I would love to see some of these old ratchets re chromed too. Wow, great stuff! I may have to find an old Craftsman box to restore.
