Hi,

I am looking to get a pair of speakers for the garage. I have an amplifier sitting around & was planning on ordering some speakers from monoprice but they want $35 to ship $55 speakers & somehow that is bothering me to much to make the purchase.

I would like something that is 100w or more. I am not expecting perfect sound but if anyone has a recommended amazon link or something, please let me know.

Thanks,
Rich

Tag sales are a gold mine of unwanted speakers. Usually cheap if not free as people who are moving do not want to carry that heavy pair of 30 year old speakers with them.

Get '70s or 80's speakers from an older power system off of CL.

I got a kickass Kenwood component system with speakers (15" woofers) amp, cd player, equilizer, tape decks (yes, I have cassettes!), and wood cabinet for peanuts.

The thing will elicit a police response with the volume above "3". Put an old laptop in the cabinet and stream anything you want. Crystal clear and very awesome sounding.

Couldn't be happier with the sound quality, flexibility, and price.

Got mine from Ebay, big pair of 80's Wharfedales. Shipping was pretty reasonable as long as I was happy for it to take a few days.

Check out local thrift stores. Here in NC they are usually under $10 a piece. I picked up some real nice Sony speakers for $2 a piece.

Bose sell direct or you can get them at most Best Buys. After all why would you settle for anything less in your garage.:lol_hitti

And yes I do have Bose in my shop:evil:

Sorry, would not have Bose even if it was free, 2 dollar marketing is all your getting, no highs no lows, must be Blose.
Im an audio guy, thats just my tuppence.

If you can find them, listen to Sonos speakers, just need wifi, streams anything from anywhere, radio, pandora, spotify and many more, all controlled from your phone, tablet or computer.

If you just need speakers, Linn, Proac, Thiel, B&W, Paradigm, Wharfdale Diamonds, vandersteen, Polk audio, mirage, Dynaudio

if you have a goodwill store in your area, check there too. our store always has speakers, sometimes really high quality ones that people don't want anymore because of their size.

that being said, we have ceiling speakers in our garage. I think they are Pioneers that my husband picked up on slickdeals.net that we originally intended to use in a "whole home" music system that never happened.

I use a cheap-ish sound dock that I plug my phone into. It gets loud enough, but a better stereo setup would be better obviously.

I agree that CL is your best bet. Some people are basically giving decent stuff away.

I made a similar thread with that question a couple months ago. I ended up with computer speakers / sub and works good. Not the base I was looking for, but I only spent $50.

I have a set of these in my garage.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00081NX5U/?tag=atomicindus08-20

They are outdoor speakers from Dual intended for decks, pools and so on. Mounting brackets for wall or ceiling mounting. I feed them with a cheap old Pioneer tuner that might put out 35-50 watts per channel. 800+ reviews on Amazon.

Those look nice for the price. Do they have any base for their size? I wonder how they would work with my Lepai amp? http://www.amazon.com/Lepai-LP-2020A-Tripath-Class-T-Amplifier/dp/B0049P6OTI/ref=pd_sim_e_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=1EKJE6FFYJ9HDVTXMQ2E

I had a set of speakers and a subwoofer from one of my old desktop computers. Hooked them up through an AV amp and can blow the walls out.

I've got a set of Electro Voice Interface B speakers and a set of EPI 500 speakers in my work shop. Enough sound to move the house off the foundation. I need to get my Fisher RS2010 worked on, it went kaput on my about 3 months ago.

All of these have been with me since the high school / college years.. pre digital..

Costco should be checked. I picked up 2 pairs of klipsch speakers years ago that looked great. Weird story. I plugged them in and could barley hear them. Tried both pairs with similar results. I called klipsch and gave them the model number ha she thought it was weird that I had those since they have a built in transformer that is meant for massively long runs, like in stadiums. He told me to cut the wires before and after the transformer and bypass it and wahlaa, great sounding speakers.

I would say Denise on how you want them to look and decide the price you want to spend. Can't have everything for nothing though.

I got a pair of JBL LX22's at Goodwill for $13. Really nice sounding for the size and most definitely price. Also picked up a 15 or so year old Sony receiver there for about $20.
