Parker 1X and 2X Vises!

I picked up 2 nice parker vises today. A 1X and a 2X. Both are in really nice shape. The only problem I have is that the 2X is missing the garter collar. From what I can tell the collar is a little different between the 1X and 2X.

Both vises are fixed base.

A couple of questions:

1. Does anyone have a collar available for a 2X or know where I can get one?
2.Where can I find historical information on Parker vises? I am trying to get an idea on how old the are.
3. Other than the 1\2 difference in the width of the jaw, what is the difference between the 1X and the 2X?
4.How do Parker's compare to other vises? Athol, Reed, etc.

Thank you in advance.

I will take pictures tomorrow and post them. I just confirmed that the collar for the 1X is too small for the 2X. Bummer... I was hoping it would be as easy as have a new collar cast at Cattail. I'm sure that the collar from other Parker models would fit but, I have no idea what ones would work.

Pictures are attached.

The 1X appears to have had very little use.

You can see on the 2X that someone put on a homemade collar. That that is the only piece is missing. From what I am finding, getting one is going to be very difficult.

I plan on taking them both apart and cleaning them. The 1X has 99% of the original paint. The 2X has some very slight surface rust. No need for new paint...I think that ruins them.

I got the 1X taken apart tonight, no issues. There is a lot of play in the spindle nut. From what I can tell the pin that holds it in place has never been removed. It came out pretty easy. From what I can tell it looks like they tap the pin in place and then bend it towards the spindle nut to hold it in place.

Is a lot of play normal? I have an Athol vise that uses a similar pin but the top of it is tapered. As you tap into the vise body it snugs up against the spindle nut to hold it firmly in place.

Has anyone every replaced the factory pin in one of these vises with the tapered type?
