I guess this is the place to post a new build so I'll start here and see if the ADMINS move it. I've been looking here and never thought my build would happen but, when it started things got moving quick and I was working late nights to keep up. Self build and I'm posting here to help others.

From start to current. Girts, header for overhang, framing for doors and windows next. Never thought I'd see this progress:shocking:

DLMB: pictures look great. how thick did you pour your cement floor? are posts in gravel or cement? are you doing this basically yourself with a few friends helping or did you hire a contractor?

thanks for sharing your build with us. any questions so far?

Looking good, thanks for sharing.

I've got a 60x40 hay barn that I'm thinking of doing the same thing with, so I'll be following your build.

Floor is 4"+ and was sub-grade done by us to get the full cement. Sumps where the lift will be located is 8". If you let someone else prep the sub-grade and they use 2x4s for skirt boards then you don't get the full 4" of cement.

Laminated posts are sitting on cement at 4" thick and the pour around them was with the floor at 18" circumference and true 4' plus in depth.

Pulled a permit and doing this with my Father-in-law and 1 other friend that has helped. We subbed out the concrete and plan on having someone else hang the metal. Easier to sub out some things when they do it all the time, would take more than 2 people to do, and/or would take 2 people a long time to do.

DLMB: I have seen a few pole building threads and i think yours is the first one with actual poles or trees for the main supports. your idea or is that the way they build them in your area?

i like the extra area you are making on the side because as many members will say "build as big as you can". i think they added "afford" on that expression too.

i like the pictures and i totally agree that paying the pros to do the job they are good at is wise. i don't think i'll ever mud and tape sheetrock again, but i'm sure i'll have a patch or two i'll need to do now that the grandkids are starting to run around the house.

any questions? or just keep adding all those great pictures and letting us know what you did and what the plans are so we can enjoy your build and maybe help if you need a little.

There are many around that use the poles, usually roughly 6" diameter. It was existing when I bought the house. Most have them to keep machinery or equipment under and that's all they do with them. I do all my own vehicle/equipment maintenance so I went with what I had. The laminated beams we built are from pre-engineered specs and are stout, running all the way to top of trusses.

The extra is for fifth wheel storage. I've got the two 14' H sliders just in case I need to pull it in the shop. Extra pad on the exterior for my compressor too. I've been paying attention while looking at all the builds here.

Hope my build helps someone out as well.

DLMB: nice add on with the compressor pad outside the shop because your ears and sanity will thank you.

thanks for letting us know the reasoning behind the poles and also confirming the extra pad outside the building is for that big RV of yours. also wise to have the door big enough to be able to pull it inside if it needed.

keep up the great work and if you have any questions just ask and start reading until you (or we) get the answers for you.
