Hello all-

My wife and I bought our first home earlier this week so I've decided to start a thread to document the garage transformation, however big or small it may end up being. We are moving from a rent house with a 2 car garage to our new house with a 3 car garage. Very excited for the extra room! Here are some pictures of the new space:

We really like the fact that this house already has a safe room built in to the garage. It does take up some valuable space in the 3rd bay but it's nice to have when you live in tornado alley :) Hopefully we won't ever have to put it to the test!

We'll be using this garage to house my wife's DD car, my mustang track car, and my wife's 1960 Austin Mini that we are building. I do a lot of the work/race prep on my mustang and we will be doing as much as we can on the Mini as the restoration continues. Here are some pics of the cars:

I'm in the process right now of gutting the car and prepping it for wheel-to-racing.

My wife's Mini that we are building to be a nice open track toy. The plan is to throw a Yamaha R1 bike engine when it's said and done. This will be a multi-year project. Since this car is so small it's perfect for the short 3rd bay in the garage

At the body shop currently

There is a TON of good info on this forum and it's great to see what others are doing in their garage space. Hopefully I can add to the community with my garage thread. I'm planning on getting started on an epoxy floor next week after we get moved in, so I'll have some updates soon.

Love the mustang. What mods have you done to the engine? I see what you're doing gutting the car but I can't help but to cringe seeing that lol.

Motor is stock except for 47lb injectors and an e85 road race tune from AED. I've often wondered if I'm crazy for doing it! lol

Here's a short video of the car out at the track.

Will you be deseeming the mini fitting wide arches & wide rims etc love the house :rocker:

Thank you! No, we are going to keep the seams :) We have a set of sportspack arches and some 13x7 alley cats to go on the car when it gets out of the body shop.

Congrat on the new house!. Love the Mini! You may enjoy these guys on Youtube. They company is called Bad Obsession. They are currently building a mini similar to your, but with one "small" difference. :) Check them out. The craftsmanship and engineering is unreal!

Congrats on your new home. Excellent curb appeal. I was glad you made reference to that safe because at first i thought it was for guns hahaha. Good luck with the process.

congrats! I am in the exact same boat! You are about 2 weeks ahead of me.. Still waiting to close on mine :/

Identical 3car setup so I'm excited to see how the transformation goes! You going to coat the floor before moving everything in? Checkout Rust Bullet for low-temp/winter floor coating application as an alternative to epoxy..

Nice house and great garages. Little clean up on the floor and it will be a showcase. Congrats on your first home.
Much appreciated

Very nice house, garage, and cars! I will subscribe for updates!
Thanks! Looks like you have a nice S197 mustang as well :) Looks great

Ha...Yes I've run across that company before. They do some really great work! Thanks for the link

Thanks. Ha...gun safe is a good guess. I've lived in Oklahoma all my life and it's nice to finally have a safe room in our own house rather than calling up the neighbors. Now we're the neighbors :)

Man...I know how you feel right now. It's hard to wait!

Yes, I'm planning to coat the floor before we move stuff into the garage. Luckily we have our rent house through the end of the month so we don't have rush with moving everything. Thanks for the tip on rust bullett.

Hhhmmm, I like the house, the garage, the safe room, the Mustang, and the Mini. Everything else is ****. Oh, wait, that's all you've posted so I guess I like where this is going!

I like the Peter Griffin avatar too.

Edit to add I'd like more pics and info on the old Ford truck in the back of the Mini pic.

Welcome to the site! Looks like a nice house (and garage.) It's always fun to see pictures from Hallett - my cousins own the place. I used to come down every year to run a Spec Racer Ford but finally realized I wasn't very good at it. :)

Thanks! That picture was taken at the body shop where the mini is currently being worked on and it's actually a Bronco :) Really cool. The guy that owns it is good friends with the shop owner and it's been a LONG term project. Just works on it here and there as he has some cash.

Thank you for the welcome! Oh wow...that's awesome! I absolutely LOVE Hallett. The Stephens really do a great job with the track and the atmosphere. Those SRFs look like a lot of fun. As you can see from these pictures I'm not that great either. But, you have to go past the limits to know where they are :)

Being from a place that obviously has no use for a "safe room" I first assumed it was a massive gun safe (american stereotype sorry)

So you seriously go hunker down in the metal box and lock the door? beats dying in a tornado... crazyness!
( Then again... I live in the frozen north... so maybe you think Im crazy too)

They've become more popular in recent years, particularly after some big tornados went through that part of the country killing many people. Also, a lot of homes in that area don't have basements, so there wasn't a safe place to take cover (and in any case, even if you're in a basement, what do you do afterwards when the whole house has collapsed on top of you.)

I think the safe-room is a great idea! I am thinking of pouring concrete walls and ceiling in the rear section of my build since I have to have 6ft retainer wall anyways. A good 8ft x 8ft vault (wine cellar to the county) would go great in my build!

Way too small for guns.

Nice looking setup you have man. That Mustang looks like a lot of fun! I would hate to see your tire bill though LOL

I've blocked off my schedule in the evenings for the next couple days to get the epoxy floor knocked out. I'll be cleaning/etching tonight and hopefully able to lay down the epoxy tomorrow. Stay tuned!

Wow that sounds like a riot. Would LOVE to put a Hayabusa motor in this car but we wanted to keep it front engine/front wheel drive so the R1 is going to be our best bet for an easy bike engine swap.

Tires and brake pads...tires and brake pads. That's my life lol. I do buy used tires from race teams to help keep the cost down. I buy them with 75%+ tread left and run them until they cord. A race team might throw them out because they fell off a second or so a lap but I'm not that fast anyway lol.

My wife and I laid down some epoxy and flakes on the garage floor last night. I will be adding a clear coat over this once it has all dried. My garage is around 650 sq ft and I used one 2.5 car Rustoleum epoxy kit and one of the 1 car kits. Both in gray. I also ordered 12 lbs of "black marble sparkle" flakes from originalcolorchips.com. We only ended up using probably 10 lbs.

Overall I think the garage looks great!! The clear coat should really add some depth to floor once that goes on. Not bad for a couple of first timers... :)

this is looking good. be sure to keep us up to date on the projects, specially the mini.:3gears:

Current status is waiting on some seats to get here from Hong Kong...lol. We've tried a couple aftermarket vintage race seats and weren't really happy with any of them, so we decided to jump on this set that was for sale on one of the forums. They came out of a late model Rover Mini and are somewhat rare. They might need a little TLC but they should look great. Once we get the seats in, we can test fit them in the car and then get started building the roll bar.

Thanks! You should definitely check out Hallett one day. From the looks of it, you would certainly have some fun there with your Cobra :) I'm in Glenpool.

I'd like to, but I don't think it is up to the task just yet as far as passing tech. Do they have open days or instruction days when noobs could just go out there and learn the proper way to drive and track etiquette? I'm over in the Ponca City area and I have a brother now living in Skaitook.

Yes, they do have those days. That's what I've been doing for the last 3 years and now I'm attempting to transition into wheel-to-wheel racing. During the last weekend of every month, they have HST (High Speed Touring) days, which is basically what you described. Anyone can take their street car on track and odds are if it's legal to drive on the street then you'll pass tech. They run two groups of HST (experienced and novice) and you get 5 sessions on track (15-20 minutes each). If it's your first time you have to take a driver education course. Instructors are available to ride with you or drive your car. Passing only allowed on the straights. It's $125 for the day and a STEAL for what you get.

You can check out their website hallettracing.net for more info on HST.

Nice clean slate to work with. I started to drool over the gun safe until I realized it was a room safe, lol. Would love to see interior pics?

Nice track stang. Will be watching for updates on this as once my garage/man cave is ready, I'll be working on my flood salvage Shelby GT project car to transform it into a dedicated track car.

Congrats on the new home (and the three car garage!). I'm in Tulsa and have met you once or twice at some of the C&G events. Had a black Maggie'd C6 Corvette that I sold and still have an old 85 Monte Carlo that I hope to bring out to Hallet some day. It will get worked at some of the AutoX events this year for sure.

At any rate, looking forward to the garage updates!

Lol... Once the garage floor has cured I'll get out there and get some more detailed pictures of the safe room. I checked out your thread and your SGT looks like a great track car candidate. I've always liked the SGTs. I'll be sure to check up your build. Garage looks great!

Oh wow...small world!! I really like going to the C&G meets. Good group of people and a nice atmosphere. I'm a sucker for C6 corvettes... and the Monte Carlo sounds like a fun car. Maybe I'll see you out at Hallett or another C&G meet this year :)

Much appreciated! And you said it, great folks out there. Connie is awesome. The new surface is fantastic and it's been long enough now that there is some good rubber laid down. You'll enjoy it. I think they paved all the way from the bottom of the ***** through turn 6. So almost a complete repave. I put down some of my fastest times out there just a few months ago :)

Well I was able to get the mustang moved over to the new garage today, along with some other garage stuff. I haven't organized much yet but hopefully I can start soon. I need to have everything moved out from the old house by Thursday of this week so it might look worse before it gets better. On a separate note, I put two cars in the garage on the new floor and nothing peeled up so I'll consider that a win :)

In her new home. Liking the new floor

2 cars in...the truck will live outside. Some of the citric etch dried on the driveway, but now that garage floor has cured I can get the power washer after the driveway.
