That spray paint rack... :evil:

I built a rack for spray cans and other stuff over the weekend. It's just 1" EMT and some white wood boards.

I was replacing some old rusted metal shelving that the previous owner of this property left behind.

I wanted to be able to see more than just the front row of my spray cans and I wanted to have space for a lot more stuff. It's 90" wide and about 6' tall.

I loaded most of what I had on the old shelves onto it and now it's looking a little more full. I've got tons of old partial cans of spray paint that need to get used or trashed soon.

I spaced out the 1" EMT enough so I could double stack cans if needed, it's also great for calking gun tubes, plastic oil quart containers and a whole bunch of other stuff like rolls of duck tape or boxes of nails.

It certainly clears up shelf space, but does eat up a lot of wall space. I'd be tempted to make it a double deep leaf design using closet sliding door hardware.

Excellent rack but I've got some bad news. Just when you need to use that spray paint or caulk it'll be all dried out.

I ditched everything that was trash when I put it up on the rack, most of the calking tubes are for pending home projects that are on my man list so they aren't too old. I've got a lot of stuff coming up once it warms up, I plan to use up as much of those old paint cans as I can.

I didn't, I was going to run some screws in the end of the pipes on the outside but after I put a few cans up there I realized that the weight locks them in pretty well. I loaded down a shelf and pulled the pipe inside of the end board just to see what would happen and nothing moved. The 1" EMT is pretty strong compared to the smaller stuff, it holds up 20 cans of spray paint no problem on the 45" span.

The front pipes are 1.5" higher than the rear pipes and the pairs of pipes are 7" apart vertically. That's a 1x8 board with a 1x2 flat on the wall. The pipes are 1.5" in from the front/rear of the 1x8. I used 1" EMT for all of it.
