Some members know there is a list of people looking for Block grinders that have asked for help locating one in the SE Michigan area.

I wonder how long after PM'ing/eMailing someone on the list, they should have to reply, before the next person is contacted.

I think an hour is good to move on to the next person, but you didn't have that choice. in this pole since you are the seller what works best for you is ultimately the best and you should get all the votes and we'll live by it. maybe change the choices to email them all so first email confirmation, or 1 hour, 4 hours and 24 hours if you can. most everyone can get to emails sometime during the day now that are members on GJ.

i know some guys are working hard and can't get to emails quickly or at all during work, but a lot of them have email on their phones and can text or email.

I'm not in favor of the contact everyone and the first one to answer gets it. Seems to me starting at the top and giving each person in turn a shot would be better. Also if you don't take the offered grinder I'd think you should go to the bottom of the list.

It depends; are you also racing to get an answer for picking it up? or did you PU the vise, and are looking to move it to the next victim quickly?

I'm assuming the former? if so I'd lean to 2-3 hours or something? :dunno:

Also how are you contacting them? Email? PM, posting on the thread?

Outlaw: when you want to get your name on the list you need to PM Tourqueman your contact information. then when he finds a block (not a vise, but easily confused) he contacts the member.

TM just wants to be fair or more than fair IMHO.

Outlaw, the W/W List is for keeping track of what type of Block grinder GJ people are looking for. Since I'm in a relatively Block 'rich' area, I've helped people get a Block from the local CL adds.

I get all that, and I've got two and don't need one myself: I was asking for background as that all affects what a reasonable answer might be...

Hi Drives & ALL, I know most GJ Block head-hunters are, unlike me, working. So, they may not be able to get and/or respond to a Block related eMail/PM.

I want to give people on the list a reasonably good and fair chance of opting IN/OUT of the latest find.

I think my 'edge' is I can monitor the CL ads and get to the seller with minimal delay.

For a 1/3 or 1/2 HP it may not matter in the long run.

I did hear from the seller of the 3/4 HP ft Block - 397.19340 that between the time we had an agreement on price and shipping and payment, she heard from 3 or 4 buyers about the Block grinder. She was wondering why that 1 tool, when she had listed hundreds of others. And, the calls were all from guys named Mike. :eyecrazy:

Also, that sad 1 HP Block that was on eBay, was being 'looked at /Question being prepared to Seller' as the seller accepted my BIN offer.

So, I'm thinking the quicker we as a group learn about and react to CL Block ads the better the chance we have of keeping them out of the landfills.

When I 'restore' my inventory and offer it for sale, I have not yet decided how to go about it.

Even though I have been a buyer on eBay for years, I have not sold a single item.

So, stay tuned; after the weather turns and I can spray paint outside I will be reducing my inventory of CM Blocks, a Baldor, a Milwaukee, and a Diehl.:thumbup:

TM, shipping seems to be the deal breaker for getting these great machines distributed. I have a 1/2hp that I would part with for what I have into it (assuming it went to a good GJ home). But, throw on $30 in shipping and it is no longer a deal for the buyer. I'm not sure what to do about that. :dunno:

Have you guys looked at fastenal for shipping? Not fast, as it gets placed as they have trucks going in the right direction, but reasonable...

ALL: unless you are shipping multiple blocks or including heavy stands Fastenal won't be competitive for the smaller packages. where they have a niche is heavy items on a pallet and especially over 1000 pounds.

I've got a few smaller blocks on original stands that i might sell to local members if any in PNW might need one with or without an original stand.

if there is a great way to ship those 40-100 pound items please let me know.

TM: isn't the average price to ship a block via Fed Ex about $40-50??
