Craftsman has their Edge Premium Heavy duty toolboxes on sale. These have the 100lb drawers with grip-latch. They also have what i consider to be better drawer arrangements than the regular premium heavy duty line (more drawers, and for the wide versions they have a drawer that is full width). I have the 26" bottom and really like it. (finally ordered the top for it)

for some reason the black versions are cheaper than the blue ones.

They also have a deal now for President's day where you get an extra $15 per order back as points on the 18th (IE buy the top and bottom on separate orders)

Don't forget a cash-back site like Fatwallet (6%) back.

They are "Hot Buys" so most coupons do not work. If you have a Points per $** in your e-mail these tend to work.

Anyone have one??
Also does anyone know who makes these for Craftsman?? I thought I heard International.

Craftsman 40" 13 drawer EDGE series ("Premium Heavy Duty") still $650 after 50% off. Is it as good a box at US General 44" roller (ie Harbor Freight - - which is $389 typical price, or $349 sale price)??

Craftsman 52" 11 drawer EDGE series ("Premium Heavy Duty") still $800 after 50% off. Is it as good a box as US General 56" roller (ie Harbor Freight - - - which also is $799 as typical price, and less on sale)??

When these Craftsman get to 75% or 85% off . . . . then might be worth considering ?? :dunno:

Is 2015 the do or die year for Sears ?? :D

I think the edge is a touch above hf but if you are penny pinching the hf stuff works good. Id spend the extra money for black personally. I like the pulls on the craftsman edge better than the hf.

I have the black 40" top and bottom, have had them for almost 2 years now. They are very very good - delivered by Sears Freight to my house and extremely heavy duty and well made. I believe the code on them was for Waterloo as the manufacturer, USA for sure.

Yes.

I will say the Harbor freight boxes are nice too. To my preferences and for a similar price I liked this box better, i think it looks nicer, and was just as durable. I personally like the grip latch as well, which is probably what put me over the edge more.

I agree, they do look nicer . I hate red. If they aren't built any stronger,I'd have a hard time myself, paying for the bottom only about 20 dollars less that the whole 44" set at HF though.

How strong are these boxes built?

I have looked at these boxes online so many times. Wish I could find a Sears that has them in display. Hard to justify the price without fondling them a bit.

Thanks for the heads up! I've been looking at these for a few months and was hoping they'd have a good sale soon.

Just ordered the 26" black top chest. I kinda liked the blue better... but not $50 better. Had enough points to cancel out the sales tax, so $250 out the door, plus $37.50 back in points... seems like a decent box for net of around $215.

The specs look good. Weighs almost 100 lbs., drawer capacity is 100 lbs. each, etc. I was chatting with the Sears chat person a while back & IIRC they confirmed it was a Waterloo box, and COO was US (although I'm guessing it's probably "US with global components"). I was leaning toward what I think is a somewhat comparable 26" Proto top chest from Zoro... but even with 30% off that would've been over $400.

Supposed to be in by Friday. If I get a chance I'll post some pics & my initial impressions next weekend.

The drawers just feel better on these than the HF do, to me. Just with the steel was little thicker. I've got the griplatch on one set in my shop. I recommend it.

If they have the "Premium Heavy Duty version" (non edge) they are the same construction, they just don't have the silver strip on the corners and a different drawer layout.

That's the impression I got when one of my local stores had one returned and on clearance. They don't seem any better built than the top of the line stuff the stores carry.

I'll have to check and make sure, but I believe the "Premium Heavy Duty" boxes I have were made by Waterloo and made in Mexico.

I was under the impression both the "Premium Heavy Duty" and "Edge" boxes were made by Waterloo, & I think the "Edge" are made in the U.S. plant but don't know for sure.

Good boxes either way if you want to support North American manufacturing.

Picked up my new 26" black top chest yesterday (had it shipped to store).

* Seems to be similar if not the same build / gauge as the premium heavy duty boxes in the store. As noted above, I think the "Edge" version is just some extra trim, and different drawer config, and in the 26" case, the depth (Edge is 18" vs. "non Edge" of 16").

* It feels like it's in the same ballpark (in terms of strength / quality) to the HF 26".

* Really like the grip latch, have a little weight in some of the drawers & they're operating very smoothly.

* Again, as noted above, mfr. is Waterloo. No COO anywhere that I could find on the carton, chest itself, or paperwork... which is a little odd. Thinking this is a good indication it's not imported (as I thought by law if it's imported, it needs COO at least on the packaging?). I did check with Sears on two separate occasions and both people said it was made in USA (Missouri).

In general I'm really happy with it. I know Craftsman takes a beating on here sometimes, but I really wanted a US made box, and given this is just for home / DIY purposes, didn't really want (or need) to spend a bunch on something. At some point, when I need the space &/or just want it off my workbench, I'll probably get the bottom cabinet as well (assuming I can get it for half off like this one).

Congrats! I was looking at that one too, but didn't really have a place for one that wide. Seems like a great deal. Let us know what you think of it.

I'v opened the box and put my 40" "Craftsman Premium Heavy Duty" Tool chest on the bench. It's nice, like the grip latch handles, but IMHO it is not as good as my harbor freight 44" tool chest.
The metal appears thinner (especially on the drawer fronts), but I did not check it.
The drawer sides do NOT have rolled edges
The drawers do not come with liners (which I already knew)
The craftsman's general construction does not have as many folds or rolled edges as the HF toolbox, as a result, it does not feel as stiff.
But, the HF drawers are only rated at 59 lbs and the craftsman's are rated at 100 lbs. HF total capacity 701 lbs, craftsman 1200 lbs.
The craftsman is smaller in length, depth and height,
Craftsman total capacity: 9,066 cu in.
Harbor Freight 44" total capacity: 11,700 cu in.
I also like the heavy duty ball side handles on the craftsman better.
Pricing, with SYW points earned on this purchase, the unit cost was $213.12 before tax about $87 less than I paid for the HF 44". But, I will have to add drawer liners... Retail price on the craftsman is $569.99. At that price point, I would take the HF 44. This just happened to be a great price, especially when I already had SYW points that I had to use before they expired.

i bought a scratch and dent(no key was about all. dent was in back, no biggie) for 215 out the door. i put it on my bottom roller and just didnt like it after a few weeks, so i made sure it wasnt on sale and posted it to clist and sold it for 250. ive now got 2 husky top boxes for more storage. they arent quite the drawer slides the craftsman had, but i feel the metal is about the same quality otherwise. put a 100 bucks back in my pocket and ive got 2 more drawers.

Sale ended a few days ago on the Edge and some of the other "premium" boxes.

I have a premium heavy duty craftsman box and I enjoy it. Like someone else said cman takes a beating here most of the time (deservingly so) but I'm thrilled with my box. Got mine half off as well.

I just got chatting with Sears and confirmed COO on the 52" bottom is Mexico. I would assume they are all made there. That is disappointing.

Bumping an old thread because these boxes are on sale again. From what I can gather, they go on sale for a few days every six months or so. If someone needs one, now is the time to think about it.

I finally sprung and bought the 41 inch bottom box. I had about $130 in points from the recent new brands promotion as well as a few other things, so it knocked the price down a bit.

I will try to update the thread when I get it with COO information. As always, the blue boxes are a big premium to the black for some reason.

I got the black 26" top and bottom earlier this year (1/2 off plus had a bunch of point and coupons). So far very happy with it.

Don't forget you can usually use coupons on these as well. e.g., $35 off $300... SEARS35OFF300.

I checked a few times with Sears chat and they said COO was US. I believe Waterloo has assembly plans in both Mexico and the US now. What was interesting was there were no markings anywhere pertaining to COO (on the box / packaging, the paperwork, or the chest & cabinet). I took this to be a good sign... thinking if it was imported it would require COO somewhere? Maybe wishful thinking though.

Quite a few boxes are still "Made in USA with global and local parts" (same as Dewalt). No idea on where exactly they're assembled.

Also, Sears chat is in India usually and knows nothing but what their spreadsheet says, or the sears.com website says.

Well I received my 40 inch box last week. Opened it up and tried it out over the weekend. I have to say that the quality is really nice. It really feels substantial. Although I don't love the one narrow, deep drawer, the layout is really nice. All the slides work nicely, especially with some weight in them.

There was one tiny scratch on the top, but other than that it arrived perfect. Nothing I am going to get upset about.

One thing to note is that drawer liners are not included, but a little top mat is. Overall, I think that this compares favorably to the Harbor Freight model. If you catch it on sale, I think that it is a nice alternative. I especially like the drawer layout on the top chest, which I will probably order next year.

There are no markings anywhere on COO, which is odd. I checked all packaging, paperwork, and the box itself. Nowhere to be found. The casters were marked as being made in China.

Boom, and just like clockwork, this sale is back on. Everything is 50% off again.

I have been watching these for awhile and oddly enough, the price on the top chest fell, but they don't offer free shipping on it anymore. So you need to pay an extra $69.99 if you want it delivered. I will just do store pickup though.

Hot deal, so coupons may be tough to get to work on this.

Long time bump but I just picked this up on sale yesterday. 26” top and bottom combo in Midnight Blue. I’m hoping it won’t clash too much against my other craftsman black 41” with red drawer pulls but being a huge Dallas Cowboys fan and it fitting that color scheme perfect I couldn’t not pay the small extra to get the midnight blue.
Having to wait on it to come back in stock and pick up at store next month but I’ll wait. For who has these. don perhaps, how tall are the drawers ? I wanted more shallow storage and I think this will accomplish that nicely but hoping they’re not like all 1.5” lol. The specs don’t list that surprisingly. U really have to seek out these boxes as they aren’t in stores and I kinda think they may be sorta rare. I’m excited tho !

The top drawers are mostly pretty shallow (a plus for me) in one of them I have screwdrivers and they can really only be 1 deep for the larger sizes (but this is what I wanted so I could easily see what I have without digging)
