The extendable 1/2" ratchet is the bees knees.

I hate the extendable 1/2" ratchet from harbor freight. It is the only ratchet of theirs that I have problems with.

Glad to hear the non flex will be in stores soon.

Wonder how it'll affect the strength compared to the regular size ones.

I have a Pittsburgh Pro 1/2" extendable ratchet that I bought about 6 months ago. It came dry and felt a little rough but with some Super Lube it's been pretty decent.

That said, I also own ratchets that aren't imports.

I've been waiting also. The girl I know that manages the local one said they have a pending ratchet planogram. They haven't received their truck with them yet. They are basically the flex-head ratchets without the flex part. They have pics and part #s in the new ads.

I saw these in the flier a couple weeks ago and was geeked. I really like the flex head ratchets and was really hoping they would come out with the regular non-flex in the same style...wahoo an excuse to buy 3 more ratchets!!

How did you get the lube in?? The HF ratchets I have don't seem to come apart. I tried soaking them in oil but it didn't seem to help much.

The one I have did come apart easily. One torx T8 on the front and 2... T10 I think it was? on the back.

Some of them are quite easy to disassemble.

The one I have seems to not be on their site anymore even though I just bought it like 5 months ago. My order confirmation email only says (and the number is the SKU):

1/2 in. Drive Extendable Ratchet 98831 1 $16.99

The handle grip on mine is green and black, not red and black like the one I see on their site when I searched extendable ratchet.

Gonna get all three!!! I had a 1/4" composite awhile back but I lost it and it was the only HF ratchet I got but I loved it. Someone please update when it's on the shelf.

I'll try my best. But I'm sure someone will see them before I do.

Yea. Don't think those can be token apart. Unless someone has found a way to....

Last I heard, there is no non-destructive way. They are assembled then the ball is place in the drive end and swaged in. That locks everything together.

If it's the same as the flex head version, they're nice ratchets, but it's hard to make a case to buy them when you can get a GearWrench model for basically the same money.

I have the 120XP from GW and it's a lot of bang for the buck. I got the 4 ratchet set, it was $94 online, if you bought 4 identical Harbor Freight ratchets it's very close in price after tax and out the door.

Are these the style?

All 3 drives come out to be about $47 for me roughly with tax and 20% off all added in. Plus I get a warranty that I can use. No one will warranty GW in my town. That be even less if you use the 25% off discount. I factor in the 20% bc they are easier to find.

I was referring to the ones with the longer handle. At least when you buy a whole set through Gearwrench, just gets awfully close in price, you also don't have sales tax if its online.

It's probably still a bit cheaper when you use coupons, but I'll gladly pay $10-$15 more for Gearwrench over HF.

oh ok, i was just going by your pics before and that you only said "style" and not size. i added in the tax to make a point that even when everything factored in its still cheaper. but i dont need long handles as i have them in other brands that i prefer over the HF ones.

i have GW tools. there no better to me then HF. they both made over seas. if it works it works simple as that. if i can get a tool that works just as good for cheaper i rather. all my HF ratchets have nice chrome as the GW. the HF up side is the warranty and price. its a win win for me

The Gearwrench style has the detents in the swivel head feature as well, am I correct? Sign up for your advance auto parts speedperks and you can save a good bit on the Gear wrench stuff.

That speed perks is a waste of time. Save a lot more by buying online for in store pickup. Or ship to home. Can also get SK that way.

What's the possibility of there being chrome under the plastic handle? I'm not a fan of plastic and wouldn't mind cutting it off.

i'd say the length is probably going to be close to the regular length flex heads... can't say for certain though since my store still doesn't have them

Well played, HF.

I still like GW for socket selection/racheting wrenches/etc., but those HF ratchets are great. I love my composites, too.

I have the 1/2 extendable, which I haven't used, as well as the new 3/8 composite "pro":

image_25202.jpg

Both seem very well made. Menards sells the 1/2 extendable as a Peformax for about 50-60% more.
