So I posted last week asking about Genius combination wrenches, but by the time the dust settled, I decided on trying Tekton instead. They look identical to my eye (I would bet they're manufactured by Genius for Tekton, but I did nothing more than pull that idea out of my ***)
They were $45 shipped for the set from Amazon. 8mm - 22mm, no skipped sizes, plus a nice Ernst wrench rack.
Gearwrench non ratcheting combination were another option, but those are made in China and seem to be having some QC issues.
These are made in Taiwan and look absolutely flawless. And they have a better warranty. And they're cheaper.
They feel properly nice in the hand, and I really can't find one single flaw in the finish on any of them.
Time will tell how they hold up, but I really doubt I'll have any problems.
Maybe they could stand to be a little longer, (but then that's always true isn't it?)
They're still a good bit longer than Craftsman raised panels or standard length Blackhawks.
Shorter than Wrightgrips though.
I'll be working mostly on motorcycles with them, so not being massively long might actually be a good thing.
If I have any complaints, it's that they use one size wrench black for two different sizes on some of them. That is, they take one blank, punch it out to 15mm, and another identical blank and punch it out to 16mm.
The same goes for 17 and 18, and 19 and 20.
Worrying about that is nothing more than being **** though. I'm sure I can live with it.
