Let's get this thread going.

We don't have a facilitator, or even a model picked out yet.

But that shouldn't stop us.

So first on the agenda is to find a likely model.

The floor is open for suggestions.....

Post links and photos and descriptions and retail prices of available contenders.

And if anyone is interested in becoming the facilitator. Post up here.

The first post after this one will be reserved for descriptions of the deal we decide on and particulars for the buy in.

The next two will be for a list of interested members, just like the plasma buy.

I don't know if they are all junk, or not.

Plasma cutters had enough good reputation for 240 people to sign on for that.

That why we're looking for info.

Find out what you can and post it here.

If we can find a good one, that a bunch of people want, then we'll go ahead.

If not, we can always start a USA made group buy.

This ain't gonna be no 200 dollar deal where the normal going price is 300. And you could save yourselves a lot of trouble by contacting the importer of Everlast and asking for a group discount. That way you have a stateside source for warranty and parts. The guy at Longevity would do the same. And I'm sure one of the clones of those 2 would do it to.

There's also the question of what everyone wants in a tig. A DC tig with no pedal or an AC/DC with stick and pulse capabilities and all the goodies. Or even a 3 in 1? For what it's worth, a DC tig is enough for 90% of what any of us will ever do.

I would only be interested if it was a 2015 AHP AlphaTIG 200X or similar a Everlast unit. I'll be keeping an eye on this to see if anyone steps up after the headache Sean is going through with the plasma buy.

I could be interested depending on the machine and price. Something DC with lift start and a foot pedal would work. AC and HF would be nice but price is going to kick me out sooner than features. I have a huge miller and really only need something for the car shop.

Hey, I'm in on the P cutter(lucky #13) and I already have a ancient Lincoln 300/300, but you can never have too much good stuff, right?
Put me down for one.

I have been considering a 2015 AHP AlphaTIG 200X and would be interest in a group buy for one. Hopefully someone with extra time and sanity will be able to make something like this happen. I would be open to other makes and models as long as they are ac/dc and have a foot pedal.

a little food for thought

Everlast is the way to go.

I'm sure if someone sent Oleg a email at Evelast he would be more than happy to work with a group buy.

Eastwood has 2 models:

200A DC Tig that retails for $500

http://www.eastwood.com/tig200dc-welder.html

or

200A AC/DC that retails for $749

http://www.eastwood.com/tig-welders-eastwood-tig-ac-dc-welder.html

Which one would everyone prefer? I'll see if we can make it an option, but if we can't get a good bulk discount that way, which one would we prefer?

An alternative is we got X number of buyers, how much is each unit and let the buyer choose.
I don't think you will get a consensus on one model

Oh man, count me in! I haven't tigged for quite a few years. AC would be nice but it might be out of reach for some. Most of what I would need to weld would be steel anyway.

You need to do a survey thread where people would click on what they are interested in between the two eastwood welders, then you could take the headcount for both to eastwood to get a group quote for both kinds.

I want to upgrade my tig capability and was actually checking out the eastwood AC DC unit last night. That's the one I would be interested in. If the price was right. I currently have a high frequency arc stabalizer on a Lincoln ac/DC tombstone. It works ok but I really want to get a pedal.

[UPDATE]. I'm now interested in the 2015 AHP AlphaTig 200x and not the Eastwood.

I'm Just curious how Internet group buys work. Anyone on the web will say to put them in for one, and a good number of them will bail when the quite comes in higher than they are willing to pay. Do you have a target price for each of these machines?

Wonder what kind of group buy we could get on a miller diversion 165

I'd love to have a tig but being I know zero about TIG welding it's hard to choose a model. It be nice if something was offered fo the man just starting up in TIG welding. Similair to the plasma buy in as it was a hobby friendly unit.
