What do you use for a 'engine bay light'?

Like you said ppl use LED stick light and I have a M12 Stick Light but I'm considering a second one for shining in hard-to-reach places.

For underwood or to illuminate the complete interior, I use central's perch light. For smaller areas, I use milwaukee's M12 stick light.

I have the same light, and there are two at the shop where I work sometimes. Very durable light and they hold charge well.

The rubber hand grip part does come lose after awhile but just lay a zip tie in there and push the grip back on and it holds it fine.

I also have the previous two generations of the monster light and they were pretty durable also, but finally died, will still work when plugged in though, even the one that got drowned.

New light seems as good or better and cost less, the old ones were like $90 if I recall correctly.

Mostly I use a halogen shop light and or a string of led Xmas lights . I also hot glue some solid copper wire to a free HF led light that gets hung on whatever is around for tight areas

Totally agree, I use mine everyday. I have 2 both made by Coast. One is rechargeable which I like but doesn't last long.

I use a Craftsman rechargeable LED stick light. I got it on sale for about $20. I use it just about anywhere I need to, and since it has a decently strong magnet on the side I can stick it wherever there is metal around. The light holds a charge real well.

i use the blue point underhood light. LED rechargeable and has a coating over the lens so you arent blinded by the LED lights.

i use mines every day at work since where my lift is and the ceiling lights are placed right over the center of my lift once i pop the hood open i really dont have much light to see.

This is old fashioned, but I have corded fluorescent, corded LED stick, and corded old-time drop light with a CFL bulb installed. I use whichever is nearby and convenient. They all work.

A bother with the LED is that the switch is too close to the natural place to grab the light, so too easy to turn off.

I have some DeWalt lights that can be directed well but they are not very bright.

I also have recently gotten LED headlamps, which I need to try.

Here's mine. Just a fluorescent light with magnet hangers. It's a little fragile but it works great, it's super bright, and I'm only into it for about 10 bucks.

Magnetic hangers are a nice touch but might want to get a protective cover from a food service place so if they get broken the mess is contained

I'll have to try some of those new(er) LED sticks.

I can't do headlamps, break them all. Actually, I seem to end up breaking every light I use underhood/undercar.
So far the ones that have made it longest are those cheap clamp lamps with the aluminum hood and cheap CFL bulbs, they're much less prone to dying when you accidentally pull, hit, or kick the lamp as you're breaking free various bolts in nearly inaccessible places. Plus they're much less apt to burn when close as with halogen or standard filament bulbs.

This is me. I'm on my third one of these and will eventually pick up a rechargeable version:

I got a rechargeable LED handheld and the light was sorely disappointing.

I just got this a few months ago. Very great light. Light distribution is bright, defined, and even. Has hooks on both ends and a magnetic holder too. I use in under the hood, under the car, inside the interior, and sometimes take it with me when I go out to the yard at night. This light uses SMD LEDs having a wide and true white pattern instead of those regular LEDs having a focused and not as white pattern. Highly recommend this light.

im telling ya, this is one of those few things where youre gonna be suprised what you got for the $40 u spent.. another good thing about it, is that when the battery runs out, you can still plug it in, and it will continue to work..

i also have the HF led underhood work light - honestly, you cant even compare the two. for a pro, i would probably invest in one of the better "dedicated" underhood lights - but this is one of the most versatile things you can buy. you can use it for so many things. trust me - youll be impressed, and you'll be thanking me.. lol.. good luck

I purchased from Ace Hardware last week a thin 4-LED flashlight for around $16 (with tax). It is a little over 14 inches tall. The flashlight outputs a yellow or natural light. It's screwed together decently with small Phillips fasteners on the back but doubt it's impact proof. The flashlight does not have a top or bottom integrated swivel hook. They make an adaptor that you can plug a 8ft LED light tube directly into an extention cord. I'm thinking of getting one if I ever find one at a resonamble price.
