t 12 led bulb replacment clear or milky

the single pin 8 ft bulb in my shop are starting to piss me off ......

always used 65k bulb for color correctness, relamped all 10 fixtures (yes 20 bulbs) about 6 month's ago and the new bulb are all ready burning out,

was looking at the lights at cosco but the color of the lighting turned me off,

going to try these out

Of those choices the frosted lens (or milky) is the only one that might satisfy you. The lumen output of the clear is poor (assuming any of the data of either bulb is accurate), plus clear gives you painful point light source at any output.

If your going with LED and looking for brightness, get the clear. I was going to replace the T8's on my tool truck (26 of them) with LED and found that the milky ones were no brighter than a regular flourescent bulb. I ended up going with the "Daytime Deluxe" T8's and skipped the LED's saving myself at least $100.00.

Except in this case the 2 choices are:
1. Clear 192 SMD2835 LEDs w/claimed 4800lm output
2. Frosted 240 SMD2835 LEDs w/claimed 6000lm output

Today's T12s just aren't the same as yesteryear's.
Please dont send that guy $1800 for 20 lamps. That's just a rip off. They are of unknown origin and only have "ebay" quality. Just because he lists some fancy number of the LED model number means NOTHING about the quality of these.

I've notice that new trend in ebay LED sellers.....listing the LED type (SMD-***) to try to convince potential buyers that they are using good components. It means nothing because they could be SMD-*** which were rejected by other manufacturers.

The Costco ones are junk, too.

Get yourself some retrofit kits so that you can convert your existing fixtures to 4 lamp T8. Use the $1000 you save to buy me a beer.

New tombstones is a better bet, IMO (as long as they're replaceable). If not, new fixtures. WAY more options for the two pin lamps.

I just bought new fixtures (granted, they're pretty crappy fixtures) and new LED lamps for my garage - 3 fixtures and 8 lamps (I already had a matching fixture in my basement from the previous owner) and I have a total of $130 in it. WAY better light, instant on (even in extreme cold where my old T12's wouldn't even start) and more light to boot (granted, the previous fixtures were crappy too and didn't allow for the best distribution). Now, I got a deal on my bulbs, but even at 2x the cost, the whole setup would have been under $250 ($13/fixture from Lowes x4 and $22/bulb x8).

No doing test lamps first

ordered 2 8ft and 4 4ft to see quality and light output as for doing the t8 conversion, we did it at work and it does not do that great, were replacing ballast and bulbs non stop ,

for the lights i need,looking at 100 bucks just for bulbs and the conversion kits look to be about 45 to 50 per light with ballast,

for the t8 conversion at 10 lights still not cheap looking at 600 for t8 65k

the led's for 20 bulbs looking at 800

will let every one know how the test bulbs work out

I wouldn't buy any of that made-in-a-garage-in-China **** (not just because they're made in China). Especially not for that crazy price!!

crazy price ... the t12's single pins i bought 20 lamps have over $200 in them and not even lasting 6 months, so Tommy what would you be using then.....

and has to be 6500k lumes, for color constructiveness

I misread the ad. I thought it said they were $399.00 each. We use a LOT of LEDs in the various fixtures at work. Our supplier quoted me ~$70.00 each for the 8' single pins he would recommend for my garage and that is a semi-direct replacement where you eliminate the existing ballast.

I understand the desire for color accuracy. Have you read this CQS (Color Quality Scale) report by the NIST (National Institute of Standards Technology)? Though it's focused primarily on LED, the info is still pertinent.

To tandem 10 fixtures, you would need:
10 retrofit kits: $15 each
10 4 lamp T8 ballasts: $20 each
40 T8 6500k lamps: $4 each

Total $510.

The labor is a wash since you will be bypassing the ballast anyway. You'll get tons more light this way, you'll get the 6500k that you want and you wont be getting ripped off spending $90 for an un-named cheapo LED lamp.

You can get good name-brand products for the prices listed above, not junky big-box items. They come with long warranties and plenty of local sellers to support you after the sale.

as stated above post we did the t8 conversion at work and I'm not impressed at all with the results.

in other words I'm sick of replacing ballasts and bulbs at work,
all of the stuff we bought at work was good name products, and the t8 bulbs and the newer electronic ballast do not hold up like the old style do also the new t8's do not seem to hold the lumes as long as the old style t 12 bulbs do, so were relamping more often.

as for your prices I'm in Pa and i wish i could get the pricing you stated, each fixture looks to be 45 to 50 to convert plus bulbs.

also its not $90 per lamp .... with the quantity i need its $35 per lamp (70 per fixture) plus a couple of spares,

my shop is part of my house my lights are on in there 4 to 5 hours a day during the week, all the time on the weekends
