I was browsing the internet and found an old Gearwrench promo for the 81916 and 81918 that was listed under part# 81916SP. One of the buy one get one free deals. Everyone was sold out but with some creative web searching I found a tool company that still has a few sets.

$143.51 shipped for both sets. Cheapest I can find online separately anywhere is $200 shipped (or more).

Site says they have 18 left in inventory. I just got mine today and they seem quite nice.

Them are NON ratcheting,

I never stated or implied they are ratcheting.

they have that sale all the time, tool topia had them in a hard case together for $124 not that long ago...

The set in the hard case is not the same set.

The 81916/81918 go up to 32 mm in metric (skips sizes) and 1 1/4 in SAE. These come in a roll pouch.

You may be referring to this set:

The deal with the stubby set does not include the 81918 15 piece SAE.

Thats the most complete set I've ever seen.
both SAE and Metric up to 1-1/4 and 32 mm.

That should be all the combo wrench sizes you'll ever need.
How good are the Gearwrench open ends? are they known to spread?

They're terrible, absolutely the worst open ends I've ever had with the exception of units that do spread. A while back I did a comparison of 13mm wrenches and found GW where on average .014-.020 larger. I have a couple complete sets in both metric and SAE and will not use the open end for breaking loose or tightening. The box end is good, no complaints there though.

Thanks for the info. Did you do a thread on it where we can read the comparisons?

Weird.

I bought the 81919 set (44pc SAE/Metric) a few years ago, and LOVE them. Fantastic open ends, no spreading issues, no rounding issues.

Been using them for quite some time without any issues.

I agree, I have the exact same set, open ends are fantastic. never had a single issue with them and use them on a daily basis, professionally.

After reading this, you piqued my interest. I went out and measured all of the 13 mm wrenches I have (3 different brands) and the gearwrench were spot on as far as measured size compared to the others.

Bought two sets, one for the shop (so I can take my Flank drive plus set out of service and back to my home tool box) and one for a new tech that works for me. Arrived today, well packaged. Great deal. Thanks

This set is very tempting. By any chance, does anyone know the COO for this set? I'm hoping it's from Taiwan.

Thanks for the information. I think that's fine though as most people are saying they have good experience with them. I'm just being picky. I sorted through multiple sets to find a COO Taiwan for my GW ratcheting wrenches.
