Hi Everyone, I just wanted to introduce myself. I've been a lurker on GJ for a very long time, but never really had anything to share until recently. I'll be reorganizing my garage this Spring/Summer after many years of neglect so I thought I'd create an account and share my process with the community.

First a little background: In 2011 my wife and I decided to move from Pearland to Sugar Land (suburbs of Houston). I had a very nice 4 car tandem (2x2) garage with tons of space and I was not happy about having to give that up, but my wife worked in Sugar Land and she wanted the kids to go to school there so we started looking. It wasn't too long before we came across a house that I immediately fell in love with... well, the garage anyway. It was a 3 car wide unit that was almost tandem in depth (30'x30' to be exact) with a garage door on the back. It was in the neighborhood my wife liked and the location was great. It's tucked away in a private cul-de-sac with no back neighbors. The house was 'acceptable' as she put it, but it had a pool which I didn't really want to have to take care of. We made an offer anyway and closed in August, a week before my son started kindergarten.

It turns out this builder did several homes with the extended garage in this neighborhood. My neighbor to the left of me has the same size garage as I do and there's another home in the subdivision with the same as well.

This is what the garage looked like before I moved in. This was the picture from the original listing.

I'll be putting up a post in the Gallery soon with what I've done so far and what gets done while I reorganize. See you then!

That's pretty cool. I thought for sure this was one of those cervelle homes? that has the barn style garage. But that's even better. Very interesting.

GH: nice looking home. i can only hope to have a garage/shop that big when we move after the last 2 of our 5 kids finish college and find their own places. for now i have a view and lease a shop so i'm not totally unfortunate.

i hope you have great neighbors because living on a cul de sac you almost need them to be.

did you start a thread in garage gallery? if you did since there are so many hundreds of threads in there you might want to put a link in your signature so when you are posting on other threads it can help members find your garage to make comments there.

ask questions if you have any about the forum or enjoy the reading and hope you learn a thing or two each day like i try to so you can share your wisdom with others later.

welcome
