Large Lot of Craftsman Sockets "Found"

Let me explain the name, by Large Lot I mean 1048 pieces total. By Craftsman I mean mostly Craftsman, 664 sockets, and two 1/2" drive Craftsman ratchets. By sockets I mean mostly sockets, only 4 pieces weren't sockets. By found I mean I paid for them, but not a lot, not a you **** price, but I'm eating leftovers for lunch because I spent my lunch money for a few days. Ok so for the pictures:
attachment.php

You can tell I've got some little ones at home by the boxes I use to organize all of these.

I have everything from 4mm up to 24mm and 5/32" up to 1 1/16" 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drive. All shallow well other than one straggler deep well 11/32". I pulled 5 pretty complete sets out already and have a full inventory list of what all I have left down to what pt the socket is, size, and drive. Some of the other brands in the set are Easco, Powerbuilt, Huskey, JS Allen, Bahco, and KD. There may be others but I did't write down each name and size because I didn't want to spend all day sorting these. :willy_nil I did have a couple of Proto and Snap On sockets that found there way into my collection some how.

I found a guy here in town selling them and made an offer that was that. He'd told me that his father worked for a company in California that used all of these, the company bought everyone there a full set of new tools and said to toss all the old ones out for scrap. He took a huge box of them home and pulled out a complete set for himself, then gave the rest to the gentleman I purchased them from. They pulled out all of the deep well sockets and 4-5 more sets for his friends and family then sold the rest.

I've already got a more complete set than this for my shop, and pulled out another to keep in my truck, I'm giving two away to my family and have two pretty complete sets left. They are are about 62 pieces in each set, no ratchets or extensions, just sockets. Most of them are Craftsman, only a couple of the small 1/4" sockets are other brands but I picked the USA made ones first to complete the 5 total sets I pulled out. So here is the deal, I'm not really needing all 62 3/8" sockets, (Yes there really were 62 3/8" sockets in different drive sizes.) nor am I needing most of the rest of them. So this is what I'd like to do. If you or someone you know needs a set of them PM me why, budding mechanic, had some stolen, etc. and be willing to pay the flat rate shipping box lets say $6 (That is the small flat rate box, I hope they fit in that one.) I'll pick the two best stories and send them on to you/them.

As for the rest of the individual sockets let me know if anyone needs something to complete a set and I'll try to help you out, I'll have to charge you shipping just so I don't spend tons of money on that, but will let you know how much it will be.

So there you have it, if you are interested let me know and I'll see what I can do.

That is quite the stash of sockets! Is there a good variation in age? I would have fun pawing through those (might start to agitate the OCD a bit though).

I'm looking for a handful of metric '80s era v-series sockets. Details are in the sig, but here is a list:

12 Point:
10 MM 44302
13 MM 44304
19 MM 44308

6 Point:
10 MM 43542
11 MM 43543
16 MM 43570
18 MM 43579

I'll gladly pay on top of shipping as well.

If you've got 6 pt sockets that are 1/4, 5/16 and 9/16. My story is that I "borrowed" a older Craftsman ratchet/socket set from my Uncle and it's missing those sockets in the small case.

Here's proof! LOL

why make a contest out of it?
If somebody needs one, just give or sell it to them....

The OP was only making a contest out of the FULL SETS he/she spent time putting together. They were doing something nice.

The OP was nice enough to just give out the single sockets at only a shipping cost. I doubt they want to read why I want a 10 mm socket. (I don't need one)

Reread and evaluate your response to the OP because I think it's inappropriate for someone doing something nice.

I'll have to check my 3/8" drive Cman set. I'm pretty sure I'm missing one socket that I had to replace. If you have a match for my missing one I'd be interested in buying it.

If i were in USA i would ask for address and come right up to your door ti ask for a full set of those sockets.. after loosing all my Stahlwille tools in a divorce, i am trying to rebuild everything i lost including some power tools..

However, i am in South (down and out) Africa so i guess shipping costs would be the price of a new set of sockets.. so i hope you find good candidates for your prizes my friend.. its a very nice thing you are doing..

Wow, thanks to all of ya'll for replying and I appreciate the gratitude. I have been given stuff by members on the Garage Journal before and am just trying to return the favor. I am lucky to be in the position in life were I can do this and would rather they go to those who are like I was only 6 years ago and didn't even have a single 1/2" socket more or less anything not branded Taiwan. So far I have only gotten one good response from someone who is in need of these, so if you know of someone let me know.

lilcraigford,
I sent you a PM requesting picture of what they look like exactly, none look very old, but may be from that era, I have a few of the sockets with the single grove on the ratchet end.

In 6 pt. shallow metric I need a 4.5, 15, and 16. You got those?

Radrush,
I don't have any more Craftsman 4.5mm but have one off brand in 1/4" drive. I do however have the 15mm and 16mm 6pt, send me a PM and let me know if you need them in 3/8" or 1/2" drive as I have some of both, also your contact information.

why make a contest out of it?
If somebody needs one, just give or sell it to them....

Bagherra,
As others have said the contest is for the nearly complete sets, I only have two sets left to give away and I'd rather them go to people who are in need of them rather than just want them whether that is someone just starting off in life or having to start over yadayada. As far as the individual sockets I do plan to "give" them away other than shipping and a few cents extra because I did pay for these and they weren't free.

If you've got 6 pt sockets that are 1/4, 5/16 and 9/16. My story is that I "borrowed" a older Craftsman ratchet/socket set from my Uncle and it's missing those sockets in the small case.

Travisnd,
I have the 1/4" and the 5/16" 6 pt 1/4" drive in Craftsman brand, but no 9/16" Craftsman in 1/4" drive 6 or 12 pt. I do have some in off brands and in 3/8" drive Craftsman. Shoot me a PM with your details and I'll get them rounded up for you.

Not to worry.. i was just speaking.. we cannot expect miracles when we ourselves are mere mortals.. if something is meant for someone then nothing can cause it not to get to them.. the people who do get your sockets will obviously appreciate and value them because everyone here has a passion for tools..

Thanks for considering me though..

Wow that's a nice score! And a mighty nice gesture as well!
I'm looking for a couple of metric sockets for my traveling toolkit.
Preferably 3/8 drive sizes 8, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18. 6 point or 12 point doesn't matter, can even be a mix of 6 and 12 point.

Dirk,
Thanks for taking a look, I don't have and 3/8" drive 8mm left at all, or any 10mm Craftsman. I do have all of the rest in Craftsman, and a 10mm in other brands, if that still interests you send me a PM with your information and I'll get it gathered up and shoot you a price.

Nice score. So the way I read it, you're the only one of all the folks involved who had to pay for the sockets. Kudos for doing the right thing.

I could use 7/16, 1/2, 9/16 & 17mm all in 3/8 drive please.

56rpm,
You are correct, I bought all of these and am basically just wanting to break even on shipping with a small amount left over for making the post office trip. I think you are in luck, it appears as though I have all of those, send me a pm with your contact info and I'll get them gathered up, also would you prefer 6 or 12 pt?

I need any of the following Craftsman sockets:

Any 1/2 metric deep 6 pts or standard deep 6pts.

1/2 drive 6pt:

3/8,1/2,19/32,21/32,11/16,25/32,15/16,1,1 1/16
10mm, 11mm, 12mm

3/8 deep 6pt:

1/4,5/16,13/16, 7/8, 15/16 and 1
6mm,7mm,8mm,9mm,11mm,20mm

3/8 standard 6pt:

7/8, 15/16, 1

1/4 standard metric:
15mm

1/4 deep metric:
5.5mm,15mm

1/4 standard:

11/32,9/16, 5/8

1/4 deep standard:
5/8

Thanks for taking the time to look.

Shootingblanks,
Sadly I don't have any deep sockets and can only help you out with the 1/2" drive in 21/32 and 11/16 shallow/standard, I may have them in 6 pt but will have to verify when I get home, I didn't take notes on if they were 6 pt or 12 pt for the 1/2" drive sockets. :dunno:
JB

Assuming you are talking 1/4" drive, they didn't make a 16. If you mean 3/8 drive, they didn't make a 4.5.

Rocket1420,
You are correct, and I don't have any 4.5mm left at this point, but I'm surprised at how many I do have in various sizes and still don't have a lot of the more obscure sizes. I have a ton of 5/8, 7/16, and 1/2 in various sizes, but am running out of the 1/2 drive stuff fast. Which was the plan, get rid of as many as I can to people who can use them.

For everyone reading please specify if you would prefer 6 or 12 pt or if it doesn't matter, also if you would like an off brand in any of the sizes just to save me some time messaging back and fourth. Thank you all for helping me weed through all of this and hopefully I can help ya'll fill in some holes in your collection.

I am happy to anounce I have one winner for one of the free sets of sockets, they will be going to 02Camaro86, as he had the best tale of woes thus far. I say only one winner because I don't have a second story yet, he has been the only one to request a full set for a "qualifying reason". So again if you know someone who is in need of a set let me know and I'll get them sent out. I've sent three people out their sockets so far and one of those was to the Netherlands! Sadly shipping is more than the sockets but shipping to the US will be $3-$6 most likely. 02Camaro86, I've sent you a PM to get your information and have them ready to ship out.

Nice score. So the way I read it, you're the only one of all the folks involved who had to pay for the sockets. Kudos for doing the right thing.

I could use 7/16, 1/2, 9/16 & 17mm all in 3/8 drive please.

56rpm, I've sent you a PM, but do you want 6 or 12 pt sockets, I only have 6pt in 7/16, but both in the other sizes.

Thank you all for taking the time to play this little game and I'm glad to be able to help give tools to deserving mechanics.

Lots of fun sorting that out! I did the same with a big bin of Craftsman sockets I bought for around $50 a while back. Around 800 pieces if I remember correctly. Used lots of plastic cups to sort out the 3/8 which is what most were.

You did well. I've done the same thing. I have two coffee cans full of spares :).

Ponchoguy,
I've used wire to string together the same size sockets, and diaper boxes to keep the Craftsman and off brand separate, there seems to be no shortage of diaper boxes floating around here these days.

Mikewoods,
Thank you and I agree, I have stuff that is easy and cheap to ship so why not, someone might need them and I don't, especially not 50 1/2" sockets. By G1 do you mean the letter stamped on the side of the socket on that line? If so I only remember seeing G on over 90% of them, but will looks for those sizes and see if any of them say G1.

Sounds like you might have done better than me, but I'm not complaining one bit. It is fun, but very tiring having so many to sort through. I have two full sets for myself and just don't need the rest and don't see needing them so I figure why not help others out.

Of the ones you requested:
1/4" Drive Cman G1
6 pt shallow- 4.5mm, 8mm, 15mm

3/8" Drive Cman G1
12pt shallow- 10mm, 20mm
Deep 6mm-20mm

I only have the 8mm 6pt in 1/4" drive. If you would like me to send it your way I can but just as a heads up shipping is going to be about $3 which includes buying the envelope. Send me a PM and I can get started on it.

I have three pending orders for Mikewoods (see below), Shootingblanks, and Schmoldty. If you three are interested in the sockets I'd PM'd you about let me know. I'm not sure if I'm going to try selling the rest of the left overs locally or what just yet. But if anyone needs anything let me know asap as I may not have them much longer. Also so far I've shipped 9 orders out and will send out one more today. Thank you all for reading through this long winded set of posts.

Deep 6mm-20mm

Mikewoods,
I'm not sure if you are still interested in these sockets, but I sadly only have the one 1/4" drive 6pt 8mm for you. If you do shoot me a PM with your address and we can take it from there.
