This will be slow for the next 3-6 months, as Im still offshore and have yet to order the building itself. I plan on going with a 40x80x14 steel building to replace two 75-year old wooden barns that I have been using to build and store **** at my house since I moved in 7+ years ago. The time has finally come to build something new.
The shop will be 80ft in length but the first bay will be 20ft inset in order for me to park my truck and DD under instead of leaving it out under a tree in the driveway. My house had a single car garage that was converted into a 4th bedroom several owners ago. The new shop will also have a 15x60 lean-to off of one side to store lawn mowers, random ****, etc under.
Some plans for the shop:
40x80x14 w/ 20ft inset bay (Dark blue with white trim to match the house)
15x60 lean-to off of one side
2-14x12 roll-up doors on the front
1-14x12 roll-up door on the back gable
2:12 slope
Fully Insulated
2-post lift
15x10 storage loft
This is the my spread. 4 acres with two dry ponds (I plan on making the two into one and installing a wind mill to keep them full; wind blows like a mofo out here on the prairie)
This is a google earth view with the green lines being the house and backyard fencing. You can see the proposed location of the new shop on top of one of the old barns. I will salvage the tin and wood from the barns to use in the new shop.
I have been playing around with several free building design programs while offshore and this is what I have come up with. My shop will be a combo on the following:
From Mueller metal buildings (The free software wouldn't let me design the inset bay so this is just a 40x60x14 with the lean-to)
From Icon Buildings free software: (For some reason this software wont let me include a lean-to but lets me do the inset bay.)

This is kinda what I have planned for the interior. I need room for the following:
1. My crawler ('82 Toyota soon to be truggy)
2. Dads 55' Ford Customline 2-door project
3. Brothers '80 Cj-5
4. two riding lawn mowers (probably under the lean-to)
5. Future go-fast car project
The dirt squirrel ('82 Toyota on 44s, 6.0l LQ4, 1-tons, pure awesome)
My '79 Yota DD on Tacoma frame 2rz, 5-speed (Will be parked under the covered portion when not in use):
Ignore the Ferraris as the floorplanner.com program didn't have anything else cool to use.
Plan view:
I put the 2-post lift near the back door. My thoughts were that even though its far away from the work bench, its out of the way and I can still drive a truck through the shop and work on it. I setup the rollup doors so I can drive a truck and trailer through without having to back in.
Back corner will be a storage loft over the dirty part of the shop. Underneath will be the chop saw, drill press, bench grinder, etc. Hopefully this will keep the dust in the shop confined in that space. Everything else is self explanatory. Shop will have a wood burning stove for the "winter" and fans to cool things down in the summer. Building will be insulated top to bottom.

Any thoughts, opinions, or ideas? This will be my first real shop, so any advice would be helpful. Im about 45 minutes SW of Houston, so If anyone has a hookup on concrete, contractors, vendors, suppliers, etc, let me know. Im not set on what brand of building im going with, but will take quotes from a few when I get back. Im leaning towards Mueller as they have a huge office 15-mins down the street from my house. I hope to get everything installed for $50k budget. (I may be crazy there as I really don't know how much any of this will cost)
