This past week there was a advertisement on the Atlanta GA Craigslist regarding a "Warehouse Sale" for Metal Work Cabinets and Lockers. The sale was to take place on Tuesday afternoon.
The location of the Warehouse was in an "interesting" part of Atlanta. I decided to drive the 35 minutes from my home to the warehouse on Monday to check out the parking-loading situation and to see, in advance, if I should bring my utility trailer on the day of the sale.
I arrived on Monday and drove to the end of a dead end street. There were no numbers on the large - somewhat dilapidated - building behind the tall, electrified chain link fence.
I got out of my truck and walked towards a gentleman working on the other side of the fence. He saw me coming towards him and asked if I needed something. I asked him if there was going to be a sale at this location the next day. He answered in the affirmative and invited me in to look around.
The place was full of "stuff" of all types. Among many other things, there was a large collection of Industrial Cabinets & tool boxes from the GE Aviation facility that had closed down a few years ago. I remembered seeing that auction advertised. There were also items from an Atlanta-area GM plant that had closed.
That's when I saw them... a couple of Strong Hold cabinets in reasonable condition. I am pretty sure that these had been in the GM plant. I asked about those cabinets and an agreement was reached. I took one home with me that day and came up early on Tuesday to fetch the second.
What great cabinets! I told my wife they were His & Her Tornado Shelters. They are currently in service in my attached garage. There they will stay until I build my detached shop building later this year.
They are 3' wide x 2' deep x 6-1/2' tall. One is the Standard Cabinet with 4 shelves. The second is called the "Broom Closet" and has a tall compartment in addition to shelves.
I also found 19 cents in them as I cleaned them out!
