not sure how old this is, but the price dropped 20% from $499 to $399 for the 5 piece kit that includes 2, 4ah batteries with it.. im not a big ridgid fan, but thats a great price. their impact driver is rated at having the highest torque on the market, and the cordless saw is a full 7.25 " blade. not bad for the price of the m18 fuel drill and driver kit.. a 10% off coupon would bring it down to about $360.. they also offer a cordless fan just like the m18 that was released.

I see more and more contractors using Ridgid. I guess it is due to the warranty. It has me switching over from Dewalt, albeit very slowly.

its hard to ignore this set at that price... its like paying for the m18 fuel drill/driver kit- and getting a sawzall, circular saw and flashlight for free..

I was at HD to pick up some materials and saw a nice Ridgid Gen5 brochure with their entire lineup listed and shown. Nice tools. All the contractors around here are Makita fiends.

Contractors power tool choices are very much a regional thing. It's a sea of DeWalt here.

I bought this set. Very nice, solid feel. Batteries last forever (charged them once two weeks ago). I purchased separately the 1/2" drive impact wrench, rated @ 300 ft./lbs. My Dewalt impact (twice the size/weight) wouldn't budge the lug bolts on my new truck. The Ridgid spun them off pronto.

Time will tell, but these are a winner so far.

Except the Ridgid are still brushed motors, no?

yes - but brushed motors have worked fine for everyone for years and still continue to do so.. also - their impact driver is the strongest you can buy despite that.. for most of us this kit would be fine, and im sure its better than the dewalt 18 nicad stuff most of us swore by a few years ago..

whats sickening, is you can buy a Ridgid LED worklight for $19, but milwaukee's and dewalt's cost $49 for the standard model..

Saw the Gen 4 version of this kit on clearance for $349. Hopefully it will drop again soon.

Should I spend a little more and get the Gen 5?

From the few things Iv read I would get the gen 5 since it's not that much of a price difference. Most said the power diff is noticeable. Battery usage not that much of a difference.

I wish they had a 3pc set with light/drill/impact.

why have they not offered this in different sets? I would really like this as a two set combo.
