Hey, guys.

Looking to jump into the Craftsman 19.2 C3 line. They have a six tool kit on sale now for $266. Is this a decent price or have the prices been lower? I haven't been following the prices so I don't know. It's not an emergency that I get this today so I can wait awhile if I can save some money.

Thanks!

Re: Craftsman 19.2v C3 Kit Price. Good deal?

Personally I would go with the Sears. Why, I own the 19.3 C3 tools. Just 3 to be exact. The skill saw, and a 1/2 drive impact wrench and a 1/2 drive drill. All tools work flawless and this is on a nicad battery. I actually prefer the 1/2 impact over my Dewalt as the Sears is quieter and the grip fits me more comfortably.JMO, Ken

I would prefer that this thread not turn into which line to buy. There are a number of those already. I've already done my research, I have preferences, and want to go with Craftsman. I would like to stick with whether or not the current price is a good deal or if I should wait for a better price.

Thanks, everyone.

Coleman---That's a lot of tools for not a lot of money...

If they'll do the jobs, that you need doing, go get them...

As far as a lower price goes, I don't remember them being offered at a lower price...

But there's always Labor Day Sales and Black Friday...

Good luck with your Craftsman Set...

Sound advice. You're right. In reality, it's not much for what comes in the bundle, and since I wouldn't expect the price to drop drastically, the few extra dollars I'd save by waiting probably wouldn't justify the wait.

Thanks.

I bought a similar Craftsman kit in 2007. Still have it today. Stepped up to the Li-ion batteries is the best thing I've done. All works great except the mini skil saw smells like it's burned now.

That's a fair amount of really useful tools for a decent price. I have the Cman line, and the Li ion bats are nice to have too, especially the long run one in that kit.

coleman10 I would go get them I also have the c3 line about 9 of there tools to be exact.More than happy with them and as mentioned i also have only ni-cad batterys. I also purchased the quad charger they sell allways have 4 freshly charged batterys that way. I have had this set for about 6yrs still have the original batterys. And yes they still work. Went with the quad charger cause it will not over charge them after they are charged the charger goes into sleep mode.

I might add also the chargers that come with the tools. I have heard they can over charge and ruin the battery.

+1 for OP to make sure he buys through website using Shop Your Way, and take advantage of any discounts.

I've got the LiOn 19.2v C-Man drill/driver and also the impact. Used the heck out it driving 3 inch screws and did great. LiOn battery when at limit just dies . . . no slow down, just dead. I've got 2 batteries so no problem. Used impact for 1st time on some stubborn screws I was putting in cripple studs between rafters in some real old wood. No problem for the C-Man impact.

Got my impact for $65 on Craigslist and drill/driver was $50 at a garage sale !! ;)

So with 2 chargers, 2 batteries and drill/driver & impact I'm committed to using the C-Mans until they die. :D

Be careful of those chargers that come with the c3 stuff I was told they burn up the battery if you leave them on. As mentioned by me before thats why I invested in the quad charger. Plus pretty sure it will charge both ni cad and lithium.

Good tools and great price. I am invested in the c3 and the 12v Nextec line. I use the drill and 1/4" impact daily in both lines. No issues. It's been about 3 years now and have been used daily in a harsh environment. I use them in my automotive electrical business (all work done on site) not in a climate controlled shop. They sit in my van in all temp extremes and work like new. I have been most impressed with the batteries. Still last long.

Re: Craftsman 19.2v C3 Kit Price. Good deal?

Another C3 satisfied customer. Started with a drill set ~12+ years ago and both still going strong. Did have to replace the chuck on one drill a few years ago, but that's expected. My 1/4 impact is probably 8 years old and has been rock solid with lots of use. The new 1/2 impact is nice as well. Have about ten other tools.... a few stinkers, but in general a very good DIYer line.

I also use both the c3 and Nextec professionally for years now with no problems.I mainly use the impact driver, drills, and the saws. I really want to try the new 19.2 oscillating tool

The C3 line when using the lith-ion batteries is a great deal for the dollar. I have the 1/2" impact, drill, and the cordless weed trimmer. I've had the drill and impact for about 4 years. I use them all the time and can't say enough good things about them. I got the weed trimmer brand new from Sears (without battery) for $37!. I've used it about a month and it's great as well.

I think it's a nice price for all the tools you are getting. A professional carpenter I know uses the CM C3 line. I used his impact and drill a couple of times when I was helping him. Seem to be decent tools.

I'd suggest also getting the multi-tool, as they are super useful. Until you own one, it's easy to not see the use for one.

Kinda high jack here but... Does anyone have the 3/8 or 1/2" impact wrenches? Thinking of adding it to the arsenal. Was wondering how well it works/ holds up?

I have the 1/2" and really like it.

I've never had an issue with it loosening lug nuts. It won't free axle nuts and things like that. I'll usually just break the tough stuff free using a breaker bar first, and then use the impact the rest of the way. I hardly use the air compressor anymore.

Craftsman 19.2v C3 Kit Price. Good deal?

Glad to see the positive reviews. I totally forgot about the points and discounts. I get text alerts with discounts fairly often, so I'll wait for another one to come in before I make the purchase. Thanks for the charger tip. I'll check to see if it has auto-shutoff. The only cordless tool I have now is an older, Ryobi drill. I've used it a lot in the last 15 years, but I've been wanting to get something else for awhile now. I just lost my dad and he was a die hard Craftsman man, so I'll stick with Craftsman. As for the comment about Sears going out, it's always a possibility that the tool line will be spun off or picked up by someone else - and if not, it's not like I'm dropping a huge amount of money. If I need to replace them five years down the line, I'll still have gotten my money's worth out of them.

If sears goes out and No one is sure but sears you still have ace hardware selling craftsman. And K mart and yes I know K mart and sears are one and the same. You still have internet sales. I myself think sears is just downsizing there brick and mortar outlets. They will probably go to sears hardware (smaller stores ) and have outlet stores. +1 On the dad being diehard craftsman so was my dad. Guess its in the blood me and my brother are both diehards too. Enjoy the c3 system coleman10:thumbup:

Ordered. The first project for the set will be to build a new workbench. Quite fitting. Have lots of stuff in the garage that I need to go through first to make the room, so I'll work on the plans. Can't wait to start.

The drill is actually made by Ryobi.
My chuck broke on mine and the Ryobi part was cheaper than the Sears by almost half.

Got the box in tonight. Everything looks great. The charger that comes with the kit will not overcharge, so that's good. I'll probably pick up the quad charger just the same and one each full and half height batteries to have two of each.

The 1/2" impact wrench is outstanding. I have the original model and it has served me well with removing lug nuts and even strut fasteners. Sears now offers one with even more torque, but the one I have is plentry powerful for what I do with it. I use the Li-Ion batteries and just bought another 4 A-h XCP battery last week on sale.

Thats great coleman10 you will love the quad charger. I was lookin on the sears website tonight the quad charger was 1 of the things they had discounted. Lets get some pics of that combo set. I might see something I need to add to my collection and give sears a little more business.

Re: Craftsman 19.2v C3 Kit Price. Good deal?

Finally got around to using my new gear to build a new workbench. Everything was great except for the drill. That thing has the worst chuck ever. I had to use my DeWalt corded drill instead. I replaced the chuck today with a Jacobs and all is good. The circular saw did a great job slicing through 3/4" plywood. As for the impact driver, not sure how I lived without one all these years. Not one broken screw head. No complaints at all for what I've used so far. Next up, hanging storage cabinet for the cordless gear and a swing set/slide combo for junior.

Anyone ever use the brad gun? I'm tempted. I would use my air powered gun more, but it's just a pain in the **** to hook it all up and put it all away, especially for small jobs.

They must of changed the chuck on the drill coleman10. Mine has allways worked very well. As far as the brad gun I do not have that piece. I did get there 4 in. grinder dont think you can get the grinder anymore. If you do get the brad gun let us know how it is I can feel another addition to the arsenal.

C3 stuff is dirt cheap and built like a tank. I loved mine, especially with LiIon batteries came out.
Accessory tools are dirt cheap, especially used on CL.

Do people like the compact Li-ion batteries or should you go with the full size? I have 4 or 5 Nicads that are just plain done. Ace hardware had a drill driver set with 2 compact Li-ion batteries and charger for $79. Considering the price of battery alone, seemed like a decent deal although I don't need the drill driver. Anyway I bought because it's the last day of the sale.

I have had my ni cad batterys for a good 10 yrs and still going strong. Guess I am just lucky. I ended up with about 8 or 9 of them. When I get 2 or 3 of them to go bad think I will try the Li-ion ones to see how they are.

I got a 1/2 drill as a brithday present and was just able to add a 1/2 impact (tool only) for $35 on clearance at my local store. I'd love a 3/8 impact and a couple extra batteries now.

I think it all depends on the tool you're using. For the drill or driver, I'd rather go with a compact for the reduced weight and have another ready to go in the charger. If I were using something that was a battery hog like the blower or air pump, I'd go full size. I'll probably get another battery or two before the end of the year and they'll most likely be the compact XCPs.

The kit you link to is a decent kit at a decent price. Who knows when or if Sears will have a better deal at some time. However I think the C3 nicad batteries are not good. I purchase the individual tools as I can, but I purchase the 4.0 ah XCP batteries and chargers for them. The nicads are always needing a charge and don't last long. The Lithium XCP batteries hold a charge for up to 18 months. The tools really perform great and the XCP gives longer run times. As said before if you want that kit it is worth it and will serve you well.

Got the brad gun yesterday and tried it out for the first time today. Very nice. It's a little heavy with the battery, but you get used to it. Even my wife said it wasn't too bad. Anyway, I used it to do a quick fix on a Halloween sign that had fallen apart. Worked like a charm with 5/8" brads. I haven't tried it on longer brads, but I have no reason to believe that it wouldn't do a good job. The only thing I see that might be an issue is it's a little wide. If you're doing door casings and want to secure the corners of the casings, your brads will go in at an angle instead of straight in. I have a Porter Cable air brad gun that is very slim and is excellent for that kind of application. Still, the Craftsman will do a great job in any setting where you don't have tight space constraint, plus I didn't have to start up the compressor, unwind the hose, plug it in, turn it on, deal with the noise, wait for it to reach pressure, and put it all away again - just to fire 20 or 30 nails, but then cordless tools are all about the convenience, right?

Bonus: My dog didn't go into cardiac arrest when I used the tool. There's something about the compressor and air gun that terrifies her. She doesn't calm down for hours later.
